I know this topic has been discussed, but let me give another spin. The response of blood donors has been enormous. In fact they are turning people away. What will be importnat is to be able to give in a week or two. If you give now, it may sit on the shelf unused and wasted, and then in two weeks there will be a shortage because of the waiting period in between being eligible.

Just something to keep in mind. I am type "O", so I will be in high demand, but unfortunately, I don't think they will let me donate. (I had aortic valve replacement surgery awhile back). I WILL find out and attempt to though.

I know I am not eligible till the 26th. We may try and set up a Bloodmobile at work for about three weeks from now.

I'm going to do so next week (after I get the OK from my Doc). Donated blood cannot be stored indefinitly. It must be replenished frequently so we need to remember that if they need blood now, many should donate but we also need to donate repeatedly in the future to keep the flow of fresh blood alive...
