I Fished an undisclosed Chatham location on foot Saturday. I found NO weed at all and lots of hungry bass. There were also schools of marauding blues mixed in surfing the waves. I began early am throwing tin and poppers and picking small blues and bass here and there. As the morning wore on the bite shut off. I decided to hoof it to a spot that looked a bit more promising (birds hitting the water) a couple of miles away. After a long walk I could see the blues and was a little discouraged. I figured I'd try to fish beneath them with some lead and rubber. I tossed a 9" sluggo with a 1 ounce head bad move....cigar butt immediately. I put on a little more weight and a black/red ledgerunner (purchased at plug night) and immediately hooked up with a mid twenties inch bass. For the next three hours I caught a bass on nearly every cast. All fish 20-35 inches. For the first time in my surf fishing career my arms hurt. I had the beach to myself except for a few big seals who took 2 fish from me. I got in a tug-o-war with one of them and the bass got the worst of it. The ledge runners worked great. The black/reish color and the olive were amazing. The bass couldn't get enough. No cows to report, but a great fishing day all around. I am still smiling.:happy:

Not funny....see you there though!;) I am bringing a bus load of my buddies...about 50 of us.....and we are gonna fish there from sunrise to senset for the next month!:smash: Stop by and say hello!:rolleyes:

sounds like fun! ive caught hmm 3 bass? in 123659235761243957 casts this year. yup great season for me :D im bringin a truck load of my buddies down there we're gona follow bigfish and we're all gona take shorts 2!!:laughs: :laughs:

Just trying to answer the mung questions and cape beach questions other members ask here on a daily basis. I apologize for the info. "South Beach" and "Race point" are about the same size..... in my mind and none of you say squat when a guy fishers olive needles at night at the race. Won't post anything like this in the future.

Don't take offense Bronko. Everyone does it their first time. You will see why guys get bent, next time you go to South Beach, you most likely won't have the whole beach to yourself. That's just the way it goes. As for the Race, it's not to easy for guys ( including me ) to get out on the race as you need to have a sticker. I made the same mistake my first post......the beating wasn't all that bad, and they did a good job of hiding the bruises.:smash:

Congrats if you really were at South Beach / Chatham light. I have made the march once all the way down to the Monomy Cut and never done as well. Packs of seals just seemed to always follow me down the beach.
One of those times that makes the hike worth it.

I have made the walk many a day and caught nothing. Just one of those days. BTW Orleans/Chatham and Monomoy have a giant "seal problem" not a "seal population." Every now and then they were fearless chasing a hooked fish onto the beach.

same here, i hiked all of south beach a bunch of times in early june and was only rewarded with blues. seals followed me everywhere too. its unreal tho on that beach, like your on another planet or something.

should have been there in 96...u want to see fishing of a life time.....sight casting to fish that were all lrg......ALL SEASON....want some better fun,,,,fish to the right inside the harba....bait an steel leaders for those 3-4' brown sharks with all those lovely teeth. knee deep in water while they swimm around your legs:eek:

96 was the best Cape!! The best single year of my life fishing!! Never had to leave the Harba to get fish!!

I burn all my spots!! There is pleanty for all!! Good for you!!

haha bronco i was jk :D i dont really see a prob in tellin ppl where u fish i do it 2 ;P its not like there aint enough fish for all of us in the ocean :) i just frown upon givin them away to irresponsible fisherman.....those who leave trash and take illegal fish but i guess those types of guys wouldn't be considered fisherman anyway and i doubt anybody on this forum would ever engage upon those practices

Congrats, I always enjoy feedback like that, I love it when people practice safe fishing and use their rubba:). I hit a school Sunday up in Mass bay, one fish on ever cast until the building NE blow made me reconsider how much I wanted to catch. I was using my 4" split tails on 1/2oz kalin heads and had the boat in 12 feet of water just outside the first breakers. Fish were slurping something and I can only guess maybe something of similar size and the usual smoke top/holi-graphic glitter belly imitates so many baitfish, they couldn't resist.

What I really enjoyed though was that one of a couple guys from shore getting the skunk, actually must have gone home to get his kiyak and paddled out to say hello before he started. I watched him paddle out several times in front of me to make a drift and take casts with a small metal and nada. I finally waved him over, passed him a bait rigged on the Kalin jighead and of course a card, only to smile as the next drift landed him a nice fat 27" fish. He had a smile from ear to ear has he held the fish up for me to see, I gave him the thumbs up and continued catching, until I decided I best tuck my tail between my legs and make the long wet run back to Boston.

It's beginning, I just hope the wind and conditions don't keep me out of my usual haunts for too long. I'd like a shot at some albies in the next few weeks.

The On The Water fishing report this past Thursday mentioned how good the fishing off South Beach was no less than 4 times in the cape report.

it's been great fishing every year off there...out in the boat...the beaches have been hit or miss........it's unreel how a 1/2 a mile or so of water straight out can make all the differents in the world in catching or not.

I was in the same area Saturday night fishing with the girlfriend(can you believe it!). I bring three surfcasters, two for me, one for her. I figured what the heck, another pair of hands and an extra hook out in the water. She's NEVER fished before but seemed game. She couldn't get the hang of casting, so I volunteered to throw it out for her. (I know, I'm a nice guy). Within 1 minute, BANG! A three foot long sand shark that she muscles in. Now she's jumpin up and down looking at this beached fish and she's telling me to hurry up and rebait "her" rod so she can catch another! I love it and I think she's hooked:humpty: She fished with me the entire weekend after that.
