Mikey is back he had no access to the net from Brooklyn . Thank God !
JohnR 09-14-2001, 09:51 AM Great news...
Patrick82 09-14-2001, 10:22 PM Same thing with Buckmaster. The thought of losing those two guys really had me down last night. Right now at least, it looks like we haven't lost anyone from the fishing boards. Some of the horror stories though :(. One guy on SOL says like 500 people from his company are missing. Crazy Al says he is missing some family, friends and coworkers I believe.
It's depressing to do everything now. Watching TV, reading the paper, reading the net... it's too much. Last night, my mom and I were watching the local NBC that covers CT news. We get both NBC in NY and NBC in CT. They had the story of one guy from Oxford, CT about what he was doing beforehand, during and how he escaped. The guy was constantly breaking down and the had to stop filming a bunch of times. He continued because he felt it was the only way he could pay tribute to the rescue workers. He still clings to the napkin he wet and covered his mouth with to get through the smoke. That man will be messed up for life. The thing that sticks in my mind was at the interview, he said, "You know how people get 15 minutes of fame? You can have mine back..." (he broke down with his face in his hands) "you can have mine back." Man that story really got me. Really jabs you right in the heart. I don't think I'll ever forget that line.
The other story that kills me is the CEO of Cantor-Fitzgerald. The survivors guilt he must have because he was taking his kid to his first day of Kindergarten. The guy was breaking down. When he dryed his tears with his hand, he would rub his eyes and you could see underneath his eyelids. The guy must be constantly crying. They were so irritated.
Then all the people looking for the missing. Some of them are in such denial. It's not the story as whole that breaks my heart. It's the personal stories that make you think, "Hey, this guy was just like me."
Anyways, glad to hear Buckmaster and Mikey are okay. Big sigh of relief there.
bluefish 09-17-2001, 10:59 AM Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of your concern! I hope everyone's family and friends are doing well... The comraderie of this and other sites has truly amazed me. I feel like a member of the family and it won't soon be forgotten, I promise. I was however evacuated from the Chrysler building 2 days later while at a meeting. I was on the 20th floor when one of the receptionists came running in as pale as a sheet and informed us of the "bomb threat". That was terrifying. We made our way down 40 flights of stairs to get down 20 floors in minutes...seemed like forever. When I made it to street level I headed downtown to 34th street and hopped on the subway and got the heck outta there! I haven't been back in the city since.....
JohnR 09-17-2001, 11:30 AM Good to hear that you're allright though... The outpouring of concern from everyone has given me goosebumps on numerous occasions...
As for the bomb threats, there have been a bunch of people that just don't get it taking advantage of these events in some sort of sick and twisted joke. But all of those threats need to be honored until proven false. Nature of the beast these days
Patrick82 09-17-2001, 03:22 PM Mikey,
Glad to hear you are okay. Really had quite a few people in fear that we lost you. Thank God that wasn't the case.
John, you said it with the bomb threats. Some people are sick SOBs and they should be dealt with with the same severity as the sick SOBs that pulled off the massacre. They are even worse (if that is possible). They knew the panic everyone was and still is in and they took the oppurtunity. It's a sick world we live in. You need to believe that they'll get theirs' one of these days. You know the story of the boy who cried wolf. Sick people.
After the columbine thing, CT, as well as other states, had a bunch of bomb threats. Even my school had one, and we were on spring break. Sick people. They'll get theirs. Every single one of them. Believe in Karma.
Mr. Sandman 09-17-2001, 03:43 PM The personal stories related to this thing are a nightmare.
The father of a women on my street worked on floor 102 and they have not heard from him...he was to retire last friday.
JohnR 09-18-2001, 07:58 AM Sandman - that's just awful. There are just too many sad stories. Tens of thousands of bad stories...
A co-worker of mine lost two relatives on one of the aircraft. I think they were sister in-law (late thirties) and her daughter (4). She hasn't been in the office since...
Mr. Sandman 09-18-2001, 10:24 AM I know...the stories are heartbreaking. I have to look to the surf to calm my nerves...At the moment I want us to nuke the entire region and remove the problem forever.
bluefish 09-18-2001, 10:48 AM Guys and Gals, thanks again. Ya know somethin', I have heard dozens of stories related to this terrible act. Near miss stories and unfortunately some direct hit stories as well. It saddens me at first, then angers me. It angers me to the point where I too would use the term "nuke". But I have to say this...
Nuclear weapons should not be used!
In fact, the type of enemy we are dealing with here HAS TO BE dealt with differently.
Special forces will no doubt be dropped in. Osama bin Laden will be assassinated with Guerrilla warfare.
Most likely the American people will not feel "satisfied" with what they won't be seeing on T.V. There is no way to televise this.
These "people"(I use the term loosely) are nomadic. They live in "families" of 20-30 individuals in size and are constantly on the move, and are always armed.
It angers me that we cannot wipe out the entire place and consider the people that live there "guilty by association" because they are. They know he is within their borders. If the U.S. had knowledge of the whereabouts of a wanted criminal in our borders, he would be captured and brought to justice, either here or wherever he was "wanted".
That's the difference between us and them.
They are cowards - we're not
They attack and kill civilians - we don't
They're gonna lose! - we won't!
Mr. Sandman 09-18-2001, 11:49 AM Sorry, I disagree. I know the "striped bass forum" is not the right place to discuss this and this will be my last message on this topic here. I just want you to know where I stand. And I DO respect your opinion eventhough it differs from mine.
The russians had tried this commado war on the afgans for 10 years and got no place ..and they took a hell of a hit and for the most part the afgans "won". (and they are much closer to the problem..and the US protested the Russian invasion on afgans...kind of ironic eh?) I know we would do things differnently but it still seems like a high-risk low-reward high-cost stratagy to me.
IMO, the US did not do enough when the trade center was bombed in 93. Sure they caught some bad guys but frankly we did little to prevent it happending again. Just last October this same nutcase bombed the USS Cole and killed a nubmer of good service men and women and injured many more. Again we did squat. If this attack was not a heads up I don't know what is. I blame the aspect of not knowing about this recent attack on Clinton admin, who gutted the intel budgets to the point we now have none. It is mindboggling to me how the US could not have known about an attack like this...the planning and effort to coordinate this was very substantial. I don't blame Clinton for the attack, just for gutting our intel and therefore not knowing about it.
Re nukes. I disagree again. Nukes were designed and built as a defensive weapons to protect America and its freedom from attack. My god man, innocent people (not the milatary) were just attacked in the two key cities and the cost to the infastructure will be in the 10's of billions and the cost to the families is priceless. And our response is to send in a milatary swat team for a few years to dig this vermin out of their hole? NO. Sorry I don't buy it. Most subs and surface war ships carry nuke-tiped cruise missles that can take out the mole hill this SOB is hiding in. So we don't have to use trident D5's or ground based ICBMs...but that is still an option if we need to. I am serious. It is time to show these SOB's what strength really is. They seemed to froget what Japan did and how we reacted to that. (That was a milatary target and 2400 lives were lost during a war, this is FAR WORSE.)
I don't think you relize what these guys have been up to . The next attack on the US (and it could come anytime) could very well be Bio or Chem related. They have been testing and making this material to use on us. My fellow coworkers that I talked to are 2 blocks from the pentagon said they were really concerned that that plane that hit the pentagon could have had some on board....Just imagine what 1 million+ dead look like, and generations of sickness from this crap. Imagine not being able to drink ground water for a few hundred years. Imagine our way of life ruined forever. No thanks.
This is serious. It is them or us, it is that simple. I prefer to wipe out the whole problem region with a minimum loss to american service men and keep my lifestyle. This recent attack was a wake-up call. Americans better WAKE UP! This will not stop until we remove the problem...forever. When the rest of the world says "the US went too far"..then you know you went far enough.
Now you know how this bass fisherman feels.
Sorry for the "rant" it is just that this has me really fired up...just imagine what even a small Bio or Chem wepon attack could do to the US if it happend right now....shear panic would take over. I don't want to see that, they do.
My Solution: Full blown removal of the problem region once and for all. end of story.
JohnR 09-18-2001, 11:53 AM That's right...
Where we want to hold people "Innocent" as truly that and prevent or limit casualties of the innocent at least in retaliation (we have not always been able to seperate the innocent from the targeted - look at WWII bombing campaigns), they sacrafice the "Innocent" purely to further their own goals.
Go after the ones that did it and every single supporter that can be found. When that's done, take out the one's that think it's their turn. Long process and long time to keep up that pressure (it may just be near forever or at least as long as we live) but those that initiated these attacks have the potential to do far worse...
Most likely the American people will not feel "satisfied" with what they won't be seeing on T.V. There is no way to televise this.
Our quest for seeing things on TV and the media's need to expose all truths can be just as harmfull. How the hell is there to be any operational security when some talking head and camerman are drinking Mountain Dews at the end of every Air Force runway and Navy Base? I just hope that for the sake of our military members, that our need to see things as they unfold do not jepaordize those with the pointy sticks. We would be doing a great disservice to OUR military if that happens...
We need strong leadership - we probably have that - and we need to fully support that leadership...
bluefish 09-18-2001, 12:11 PM Don't get me wrong guys! I hope you ARE right! I just think we're gonna see it played out a little differently than we hope, think or realize. THAT'S ALL!! Nothing would make me happier than to see the whole gene pool eradicated from the face of this planet! Believe me!
BTW when I say gene pool, I mean those who terrorize, are in favor of, or who harbor these terrorists or feelings
JohnR 09-18-2001, 12:29 PM Don't worry about the rant...
Whatever we do, regardless if we just got Bin Laden or all the way up to a parking lot annexation of every country that ends in "an". Our way of life before 9/11 will never be what it once was.
Could this have been preventable, probably. But something else, eventualy, would have taken it's place. Nature of the beast and the beast has a couple million heads.
Based on my knowledge of things (yeh right) this one gets kicked way up stairs...
JohnR 09-19-2001, 08:50 AM OK - I've thought about this a little more and I'm pretty pi$$ed off about this too but I'm also thinking long term as in 20 years down the road...
As far as how to respond, what it all boils down to is that I don't have the ability to see the intelligence that they're getting (or not getting) and I'm less than current on our capabilities (but maybe better than some of these yuk-yuk talking head TV EXPERTS puking crap in front of the camera)... I really would prefer not to let God sort them out. I'd like to see us get these guys and actually do things a little different. Much Islamic justice is done by removing the hands of the bad guys. I'd say cut their hands off and send them for life without parole in NY's finest detention facility where the can be the She-queens of some guy named Bubba. Then follow them around Big Brother Style and broadcast that on to the local TV stations in the countries harboring AND fermenting these people and their actions. That might discourage follow up. Oh yeh, then bomb the pi$$ out of everyone that supported the terrorist campaign....
TheSpecialist 09-19-2001, 09:25 AM I too have to agree with sandman, guerilla warfare will never work. If we have'nt learned our lesson from the Russians, ourselves in Vietnam, and all the stuff in South America then we should'nt even bpther.
The thing that bothers me the most is that it is being reported that many of the terrorist from last week were under investigation by customs, cia, and ins. They were all thought to have relations with bin Laden. I believe that if someone is suspected of having relations with this guy, they should be immeadiately brought in for questioning. They should be interrogated to the fullest, and if has not been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have no relations, then deport them immeadiately. The French, and Germans wasted no time in deporting suspected terrorist. This country has been way too lax on immigration policies. It is time to close down our borders for a long time. Stop letting people from other countries come here to our schools. If it is so important for foreign pilots to get flight training , then let Boeing open up a school in Saudi. That way the Saudi government can be responsible for their own.
Sorry for the rant, I have been pi##ed about our immigration policies for years. It is unfair when someone who grew up and went to school in the city , scores 98 and 99 on the civil service exam can't get a job as a cop or fireman. Then someone moves here as an adult from another country, takes the exam scores 60-70 and can't speak or write english well, then they get the jobs. It's high time we take care of our own.
Got Stripers 09-19-2001, 10:26 AM I believe a response that would shock the world, might be the only response that WILL stop future attacks. It's sad that it's gotten to this point, but when you have a half dozen states willing to harbor & finance these religious nutcases, then it will never end. The US needs to send a message SO F**KING clear that not one state will dare harbor terrorists in the future. Not only that, everyone on this planet must know that if reliable US intelligence discovers states are again harboring terrorists, that future attacks will be swift and without warning. I think you'd be surprised how relieved a lot of the major powers on this planet will feel after such a massive attack. I doubt there are many people in the "FREE WORLD" that are sleeping very soundly after last week.
Patrick82 09-19-2001, 02:54 PM Nukes are not an option. Nuclear weapons will not only effect afghanistan, but the surrounding countries such as Pakistan and Russia. The last thing we want is to get into a pissing match with these two countries. Both have nuclear capabilities. Nuclear attack could spawn a new cold war with both these countries. Not something I'm interested in. Nukes will also change the world in a physical way. Changes weather patterns, changes the resources the world can use. The last thing we want is to have MORE people pissed at us.
Let's not forget there are some innocent people in Afghanistan. The Taliban controls 90% of the country. The other 10% is in the north and it has no control over what the Taliban does and vice versa. Practically two seperate countries. We don't want to kill them. We hated having our innocent people killed. It's just not right.
What can we do? Not much I'm afraid. The principle that the Osama group works under is using cells. Each cell has it's missions and takes no orders. If one cell dies, other cells take their place. It's a very effective. It's like cancer. To be healthy, you need to wipe out every cell at once.
What do I think we should do? A major liberation. We know there are cells operating in other places than Afghanistan. Cancer spreads, that's why it's hard to beat. While you are pulling it out of the liver, it's on it's way to the lungs.
First, cut off their supply. Afghanistan is a third world country. They have very little resources to manufacture any serious weapons. Cut off whoever is supplying them.
Next, destroy their capabilities. Cut their power. As it seems right now, no one in the Taliban section of afghanistan is innocent. They seem to be there willingly. All of them can die for all I care. Cut off their power. Destroy their power supplies.
Then, start in the north and push all the cells together. This would require a ground war but there isn't much of a choice right now.
Push them all together and massacre them. Like pushing a deer off a cliff.
The Iceman 6 09-20-2001, 03:25 PM Sandman tell's it like it is. We have to take these people out, I have read all the messages and everybody has good points. After hearing all the news reports we need to take them all out. Some personal stories to add: I have been living in NYC for last 7 years and my wife was born and raised here. Everything is just hitting the almost 7 month pregnant wife now, she is coming out of the shock and is simply just pissed. I work in finacial services industry, we had 2 floors in WTC # 1, 2 co-workers are still missing, they were in a conference in Windows on the World, everybody else got out fine but we lost our whole Clearing operations. many people put in long hours to get my company back up and running. One of my good friends was in WTC # 2 on the 50th floor, after the first attack he got out and kept on running, he is fine. I work @ 3XSQ and was on the 30th floor so was able to see all the devastation caused. I did not stick around for too long after hearing about the Pentagon, so I ran home and I'll never forget this - I was on 45th and 5th and saw WTC # 2 buckle - it really did feel like a movie, I had to use a now overused word but it was surreal. On Wednesday (9/12), I went down to volunteer and the line was 7 hours long. On W. Side Highway by WTC there was a caravan of 200 vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks, police, dump trucks, construction, many contruction diggers, ect.) going to ground zero. On the last street corner approx. 4,000 pedestrians were gathered (Iceman being one of them) cheering them on, waving flags, making signs. Some signs: We are Stronger Now, Our Finest Hour, You United US. Thank You, We are Proud. People literally clapping for 5 hours straight. People hugging, crying, uniting - was glad to be a part of it. I play ice-hockey (hence iceman 6 - my other problem besides fishing) @ Chelsea Piers which they were using as a morgue - that put things into perspecitve for me. A coworker's brother in law is a navy seal - he left to Afghanastan last Wed. Another really good friend of mine was good friend's with Jeremy Glick - one of the guys responsible for bringing down the PA Plane. Jeremy, according to my friend was a sick bastard, somebody you did not want to F with, he and the other guys' are hero's for that. Check out this article about him:
http://espn.go.com/columns/wojnarowski/1251966.html
This is my first week back at work and you can tell things are not the same nor will they ever be. I don't know how we are going to get these guys but we will, if it were up to me the middle east would be a sand bar right now. Heading to the Cape on Sunday for one week to do some hard core fishing with my father and brothers - figure nothing bad gonna happen there. Be well, Tight Lines, Screaming Reels with live eels, God Bless. Will give Cape update upon return.
Iceman6
JohnR 09-20-2001, 03:56 PM Damn. Iceman - sorry for the loss of your friends. Thank you for proving your duty and trying to help out down there...
Jeremy Glick - HERO. I hadn't seen any article yet about him and his comrades on his last day that had that depth and emotion. THank you for bringing it here.
7 Month's pregnant - grats!! First one? Any names yet?
When you head to the Cape - think N. Truro... Lotsa big fish...
Mr. Sandman 09-20-2001, 04:08 PM wow. that was a hell of an article on glick. You just know that guy kicked some ass on that plane! He was not about to go down without taking them out.
I could ramble on about this for hours...IMO Americans don't know enough about the weapons they have/are developing to use on us...there is no choice. they ARE going to hit us agian this time it could be worse then WTC in terms of human loss. And they could hit us before we fire the first cruise missle. These guys are animals, any talk about economic or diplomatic efforts to resolve this is a victory for them and downright dumb. Remove them before they kill us and destroy this country as we know it.
Wipe out the regions where terrorists reside and train and destroy any government that supports/sponsors them.
My wife wants me to buy 500 ac or so in mid-northern canada so we have some place to go to should things get out of hand here. I am looking into it. (land is cheap)
I can't watch those town meetings anymore on CNN...I get too upset with stupid people and end up yelling at the TV.
Slipknot 09-20-2001, 05:04 PM WOW
Got Stripers 09-21-2001, 09:11 AM Look at the news reports last night about the boston cabbie they finally caught up with in Chicago. They find out that he had worked to get a class 2 license to drive hazardess material, you think that was just a coincidence? It's high time the US and the world look under every single F**KING rock to find and eliminate each and every one of these nut cases.

The Iceman 6 09-21-2001, 09:57 AM John R. thanks for the update my man - I know the Cape well and know N. Truro. Was in Cape in August - excellent fishing @ Chatham Inlet as well as Nauset Inlet (Coast Guard Side). Fun walk to Nauset! First child, don't know what it will be - if it's a boy he will come out with hockey skates on and will be on the cape fishing next summer, if it's a girl she will come out with hockey skates on and will be fishing the Cape next summer. Just can't wait to get out of Dodge, is it 5:00 yet? Sandman, I think we are a like as I often yell at the TV, not just with all this madness but in general such as during sporting events, I often get up walk 1 ft' from tv and then start yelling just to get my point across. Another good article on Jeremy Glick if anybody interested. He left behind a 7 month old daugher, just donated to her scholoarship fund. Felt I knew the man myself after listening to my friend talk about him.

Be well,

bluefish 09-21-2001, 01:43 PM The president's speech was great last nite, and although I hate to say I told ya so.....
All I was sayin' was that this was gonna be played out a little differently than we had expected. He even mentioned that there would be things we'd see on T.V. and things we won't be able to see. Those types of things are guerilla warfare tactics like the 101st parachuting into the mountains..locating the bastage in whatever cave he dwells in and assassinating his @$$.....
God Bless America
