The assult weapons ban does not cover semi-auto shotguns with a normal stock. The NRA is taking an ambigious line on "pistol grips" out of context to make political slander.

Take a look around and you will find that the majority of shot guns made now have a " pistol grip ". This is not NRA spin ( by the way I am NOT a Member of the NRA ) it is just another example of Kerry saying one thing one day doing another the next and changing his position the day after that. Bush has stated positions on issues in this election, when will Kerry do so? Saying Bush is wrong or that Kerry will do a better job IS NOT A POSITION. I'm waiting to here what his position is.

Spence are you stalking me? LOL

I am thinking of heading out your way Sat night if you want to get together, bring Eben along if he can stand to fish with a right leaning Yankee fan.

I believe the Pistol Grip line in the AWB was in referece to a shotgun grip intended to be held with one hand, not what Kerry was holding. Would you want to fire that shotgun with one hand?

Put more simply. Would it be illegal today for me to buy that shotgun? The answer is a simple no. Kerry is no hypocrite.

What are you talking about? Go to his website, it's all there in nice short sentences even a Bushie could understand ;)

Spence, go back and read the piece, it wasn't referring to the assualt weapons ban that's about to expire but to another bill cosponsored by Kerry that would have banned auto shotguns with a pistol grip. The bill didn't pass, which is why you can buy one today.

Now I understand, this is from a 2003 version of a new bill to extend the AWB. I'm sure one of the reasons it didn't pass because the definition of pistol grip (in that bill) is so vague as to include all grips, when it's clear they meant true one handed grips. Kerry probably hadn't even read the thing.

It's very common for this to happen, they work on the wording then vote again. The 2004 version tried to pass the same bill without changes to any wording.

The real issue is, did Kerry intent to ban this same shotgun with the proposed bill? I don't believe this for a second.

Kerry is no hypocrite????? Spence, sometime I wonder what world you're in...

CANONSBURG, Pa. (Reuters) - Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry on Monday called the invasion of Iraq “the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time” and said his goal was to withdraw U.S. troops in a first White House term.

Interesting choice of words for someone that voted for the war. Let’s look at his phrase though of “wrong war, wrong time and wrong place.” Where could he possibly have gotten that from?

Of course there is the speech given by Howard Dean and even President Bush today explaining why Kerry is saying this. In fact, early in the Democratic Primary season Kerry blasted Howard Dean for using those words, but that was during his first pro-war phase.

Bills get voted on all the time that are not ready for prime time, that's how our government works.

Most of the time they don't pass, unless it's the Patriot Act

evading the question...... You admit that he probably did not do his job but you want to give him a bigger job. ?????If he did read it what is the accepted DNC broadcast explanation????

Now I'm starting to have fun with this again.

This is too funny...

Asked if he would vote against the $87 billion if his amendment did not pass, Kerry said, "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible."

Uhhh, then he voted against it. I guess that makes him irresponsible.

Not evading anything KL. I never said he didn't read it, I just made an assumption that that was a possiblity. You don't get to jump on Kerry for something I said :smash:

Regardless it's obvious to me, and most objective people that the wording in the new bill was lousey and that's why the bill failed. Not because Kerry want's to take your shotgun.

It would have been irresponsible had it been a close vote, but since everybody knew the bill was going to pass anyway he protested how it was being funded. I applaud Kerry for standing up against the budget defecit and not being a Bush lemming.

Interesting how Congress has worked for 200 years is suddenly now an issue because Bush is scrapping for ways to dis Kerry.
