i was reading this months OTW magazine and it had a article about teaser rigs. that got me thinkin how about use one of those small wildeye swim shads in the bunker color for a teaser it would look just like a peanut bunker swimmin along. any other ideas,thoughts?

ive used just regular, un weighted shad bodies and they did the trick if your looking to immitate baby bunker

i mean the realy little storm swim shads

i usually use little fly decievers in front of a surface popper...do you use those storm shads in front of swimmers and poppers also?

the red gills are good to use when there are sandeels around the liltle swim shads can be used in the day when there blitzing on little bunker

I like Red Gills in front of popping and swimming plugs, mostly during the middlle of the season.

I like using 3" shads in front of 6" or 9" shads during the spring and fall runs.

BigBo once suggested me to use a thin strip plastic glittering bait that imiates a peanut bunker as a teaser. Maybe you ought to try it, dude?

Red Gills are great. What I suggested to Notaro and I've had some fairly good luck with this time of year are CyberFlexxx Cyber Zip in 1/4 oz. They're translucent with glitter impregnated. They also have a weighted head and rattle. They resemble silversides when swimming. They're tear resistant and last a long time. Even if hit by Bluefish.

Use a slab fly as a teaser to imitate peanut bunker. I don't think the small Storms would work well as a teaser in conjunction with a plug. I could see the whole payload acting as a giant air brake. The whole teaser concept works on having a heavier plug deliver the teaser, and those baby Storms might weigh more than a similar sized plug. You might be better off just using the Storm, and casting with a rod that's rated for casting 1/2 to 2 oz.

Mike your right. when I use the small storms as teasers, its usually with a Pikie, or another large wooden plug.... I would never do it with bombers or any other plastic lures.

i use a 3oz Kastmaster for my plug to get my teaser out there

I often use a Mickey Finn size 4 fly 1,5 ft before the lure, works well.
No swivel, a good knot between the braided line and the fluorocarbon does the trick

Don't use it though when schoolies or blues are in the area !

I like the teasers ala Bill and Jules.

If I use the shad teasers, I usually use a similiar or larger shad as the primary bait. I find the shad teasers, in addition to casting affect the action of other lures, because of the weight. But thats just my $0.02.

Using 2 shads similiar size or the teaser smaller, I seem to keep the action I want.

I almost never fish plugs without teasers. Ive caught to many nice fish on them to justify not using one. Red gills work great but get chopped up easily but the blues, years ago i started tying my own teasers and have never looked back. I tie a modified deciever pattern that works wonders. Olive over white bucktail with polarflash wings and a red throat, a llittle gold crystal flash and big doll eyes..and VOILA... NEVER FAILS, and immitates almost anything..a secret amoung my angler friends. seems im always tying them for everyone but me....:smash: ;)

the past few weeks i havent got anything on my red gills. the rest of the year i was catching tons of fish on em. Usually threw it with a mombo, or a storm shad. IVe got to try tying my own, another winter project added to the list.
