all right, it's time to start planning for a winter project. i'm looking to build a rod for rock hopping in rhody. I was thinking either the RS1209 or the RS1088. cork grips, fuji HD reel seat, hardloys, big rubbe butt. the reason for the cheapness of the rods is i don't want to be afraid to use it as a cane. reel would be a van staal 200 or 250. would consider other blanks, i just want to keep the price under 100 for the above reason. line 40 lb. power pro. would also be a jetty/ breachway rod. oh, and mike@ cape cod tackle, i'd be ordering from you, just gimme like 2 weeks! i'd be fishing out in front of green hill, and the rocks to the east and west of c-town, maybe even head out to montauk once or twice...

If you're also going to use it as a cane, my suggestion would be the glass Lami 121 3M. SB for honey yellow, BSB for black.

If you want to go Batson, my suggestion would be the SU series and the 1208. If Batson makes them the same way All Star does, they have one layer of S-glass in their material for a little added strength.

I agree the 1213m is perfect for pole vaulting and it isn't that expensive :humpty: With a VS250 it's only drawback is that it wouldn't exactly be light.

The SU1088 with a VS200 would be really light and powerful. I've got the AllStar 1088 (same thing I believe) with a calcutta 400 on it and it's a sweet rig for tossing big plugs and midsize jigs.

Allstar 1208 goes perfectly with the VS250. Also doubles as a walking stick.

As far as the reel goes, go with the VS 250 - I find the VS200 to be a bit undergunned for 10 foot rods, especially on rock piles. Also, on the VS 250, you can use standard Penn 704/706 metal and fiber drag washers in a pinch (thanks for that hint MikeP :D ).

Yah, but they fit the 200 too, Ben.
