View Full Version : Quantity vs quality.....
basswipe 09-15-2004, 09:24 PM .....Which do you prefer?
I prefer quantity.Had a great night catching lotsa a schoolies.Don't get me wrong I like to catch big bass but I find I enjoy those nights when I'm constantly reelin'em in more.
So which is it for you.
spence 09-15-2004, 09:28 PM Depends, I caught a dozen shorts last time out but I would have traded half for a keeper.
Or just wish I had brought a lighter rod :smash:

In The Surf 09-15-2004, 09:29 PM Quality, size does it for me. The dinks are fun but it's the biggums that me go Yeah Baby!:uhuh:
riverrat2 09-15-2004, 09:30 PM I dont know I had that quantity over quality mento going all summer but now I am getting into the quality thing. I am hooked on fishing eels now and hopefully will get some quality fish this fall.
basswipe 09-15-2004, 09:32 PM I fish pretty light. So for me catching the smaller fish is fun.
But when I hook into something decent......you get the idea!
valentine 09-15-2004, 09:37 PM I take whatever I can get. That's the good part of being middle aged...my standards went right out the window.Oh, wait you guys are talking about fishing.Iwas thinking of something entirely different...never mind:laughs:

t.orlando 09-15-2004, 09:39 PM All about quality.25-30 fish yesterday but not 1 that I was looking for. Only time I look for quantity is when I am bluefishing, which is only a handfull of times a year.
PurpelNoon 09-15-2004, 10:10 PM I think I will be switching to bigger plugs and heavier tins/bucktails this year.
I'll happily take 5 nights out with a skunk for one 25lber.. Schoolies are all about late april/ early may for me...
cheferson 09-15-2004, 11:05 PM Definetly quality, id take 1 20lb fish for a 6 hour trip over a bunch of schoolies any night!!
kippy 09-16-2004, 04:37 AM I agree with T Orlando..quality for stripers..quantity for blooos..
Flaptail 09-16-2004, 05:08 AM I just enjoy catching fish no matter what size. Hey I fish with Bassmaster so I take what I can get.:D

maddog2020 09-16-2004, 06:58 AM To me its not about catching fish. I take what I can get.
Usually it is some time alone to think about things. Sounds of the waves and the wind have a great calming effect. :)
Diamond Tackle 09-16-2004, 07:00 AM For me i would have to say quantity and ill tell u why.
I have only been fortunate enough to have this pappen on just a few occasions. But sometimes thats all you need.
U are into fish for so long(4-5 hours straight), that you are dehydrated, hungry and your shoulders are burning and feel like your arms are going to fall off. U have the beginnings of black and blue marks on your belly & groin area and you dont know why,the web inside your thumb is raw and u completely forgot that you desperately have to go to the bathroom .
A guy walks onto the beach, sharp and alert like he just got up, and asks you "Any action"! U just now realize that you had this section of beach all to yourself for the entire night, like the king of some country where you are the dictator. You swivel around completely disheveled, show him your thumb & perhaps a beat to all hell plug and say, go get em, i'm exhausted, as you watch him literally RUN and cast at the same time..A big smile comes over your face as you lean back into the still cold early morning sand, completely exhausted, and a happiness comes over you that u know while stay imprinted in your mind forever.
tlapinski 09-16-2004, 07:10 AM quantity of quality. :D
seriously, i will never target small fish as i see it doing nothing for the future stock. simply catching #'s is not what it is about for me. the total experience of being out in the wild surf with people that are close to me takes presidence over how many. the only way to make that better is to catch a couple decent fish while sharing the experience with friends. :lm:
afterhours 09-16-2004, 07:15 AM QUALITY IN MY BOOK! you can usually catch all the small bass you want, but the BIG girls are a different story.
chris L 09-16-2004, 07:30 AM quality because
RIROCKHOUND 09-16-2004, 07:40 AM Quality...
but right now I cant catch my @s with both hands... so I'll take anything....
i've been trying for quality all summer so at this point i'll take quantity.
please dear god, get me some fish!!:smash:
basswipe 09-16-2004, 11:28 AM Its looks to be about a 50/50 split.
It has been slow this summer so just catching fish is nice. But
I suppose if I was catching tons of schoolies everyday I would probably want a little quality too.
And I do if have to admit catching that 24lber on my 8ft Tica back in early July was an absolutely
heart pounding exciting experience :D !!!
So I guess in the end I'll take both!
Iwannakeeper 09-16-2004, 11:40 AM I haven't had enough success to form an opinion. But after catching schoolies and finally getting into a little better fish with a couple of keepers, I lean towards Quality. But as I said - it is to early to tell.
I have not had a real Quality fish yet. Nor have I had one of the Quantity nights I hear so much about. I am on the verge of both of these events, I can feel it. But until I experience both....I will hold off deciding.

ThrowingTimber 09-16-2004, 12:06 PM I just cant get all jazzed up about catchin small fish, but sometimes company or conditions make for a fun time. I'll take large fish over smaller fish anyday.
Krispy 09-16-2004, 12:41 PM LARGE
hooked 09-16-2004, 12:56 PM I'd take a few large fish over a bunch of small fish, but I'd also take a bunch of small fish over no fish.
If I was able to get out more than once a week my view might be different but getting skunked couple times in a row makes for a tough few weeks.
fishaholic18 09-16-2004, 01:00 PM Quality.
I'll take one big one over multiple schoolies anytime.
Rappin Mikey 09-16-2004, 02:32 PM Quality, any day of the week. Actually, since I can only fish on the weekends, any day of the weekend. Still trying to break that 30# mark this year. I've come reel close on numerous occasions, but you know what they say about being close. It sucks.
basswipe 09-16-2004, 10:06 PM After tonight I think I'm starting to lean towards big.Dropped a fish at least as big the 24lber I caught in July about 10ft from shore.Same heart pounding experience then the big let down when it came off.
:( :( :(
t.orlando 09-17-2004, 09:31 AM Fished with 2 buddies last nite. One fish caught by a buddy, 52in, thats what we want.
