Some might find it a little interesting. I was doing some research for my dad on the North Truro AFS AC&W site. He was stationed there right after it was put in operation on 1951 and has been speaking at the old site now that it's being turned into some sort of artist's colony. Then the site grew and the off shore Texas Towers radar project kicked in just before the time of the cold war. I was curious if any of the guys stationed at these sites fished in the 50's-60's, so I found a radar website link and started sending random emails based on the persons enlistment. I'm starting to get feedback about big stripers caught in front of the AF Station and Highland light. The guys on the offshore rig (Tower #2-Georges Bank) McGuyvered winches with heavy line and used big old dory lifesaving boats to get down. Some of the towers had their own network of lobsterpots. Another guy remembered them winching up a huge ray of some sort. He thought they ate it at their regular Sunday Catch of the Week and Hushpuppies meal. They aren't being really descriptive about equipment and tactics, but it's interesting what a guy will do if he likes to fish and he's surrounded by water 80 feet up in the air.
