Something has been eatin at me since Tuesday for some reason. I was fishing in one of my favorite spots in Narragansett Tuesday night about 9:30 when I hear this odd rumbling sound getting closer real fast. I look up and 2 fighter jets come over completely backed out with absolutely no lights and only about 300 feet off the deck. Was kinda spooky. All I saw were these little green lights as they went by, no jet flames, and them sillouetted against the bright moon lit sky.
Anyone else see them or know anything about it?

They must have dropped a fish bomb cause right after they went over, it turned on.

Yeh, right :rollem: :smokin:

How fast were they moving? Depending on where you are, there are often enough some Apaches doing their guard dance down there and the Hercs out at Quonsett are often seen doing a show on the deck too....

They came by low and slown and you could definately make them out as fighter jets. That's what spooked me. I thought they were gonna abduct me and take me back to that paradise where the women swim with the fish.

before my baby showed up and I was doing alot of fishing with goosefish, almost every night 2 C-130's were doing blacked out training.. no lights except a tail light. very spooky. Also, we live near the great swamp in kingston and like John R is saying, the Guard has been doing training with the choppers almost every day :smash:

I dunno, they just looked like big prop-driven cargo planes from Quonset to me. JohnR's Hercules guess is right on. They buzzed Newport as well at that time, one had nothing but a tailight.

Redlight...
I was west of you about 2 clicks and saw the same thing...
These weren't herc's they were smaller, and had a different wingshape... came low headed east when they came over me... and dont feel like a wus... I thought the same thing when they came over me, expected a light to come straight down and me to float up, waders and sissy gold reel and all....
Mush have been tuesday or wed night right? I lose track... or was it Monday... I forget.. was at the same spots all three nights.....

And as far as the fish bomb, they dropped a schoolie bomb on me... nothing but 26" twinks all night.....

Last night fishing at Weekapaug saw two lights moving at the same speed way up. Looked like a satelite but there were two. Then they just disapeared, must have been space junk or something?????

Red light = Port side
Green light = Stbd side

Did the aircraft look like this? The Air Guard has a few of these - C-23 "SHERPA"

Only saw their shilouettes and they were definatley jet driven and looked like swept wing fishter jets.

What ever it was, I can almost guarantee that they were practicing "blacked-out" ops. You need to be proficient in that sort of stuff if you want to safely land of take off in hostile territory. No big secret, but most military aircraft flying in the sandbox will shut off all lighting right after takeoff and keep them out until at cruise altitude.

All of the above is only a guess;) , since I would not have any first hand experience in that sort of thing.

For any airplane buffs that care, the Army flies C-23s, not the Air Force

Hey - a BUFF is swept wing too :hihi:

Now if you were fishing from Wasque I would not be suprized at all as that's where the boys from Otis play - get's downright LOUD over there sometimes... Sounds of freedom :humpty:

I wrote the the AIR Guard as in the Rhode Island Army Air National Guard. Not Air Force.

One of those big refueling planes buzzed the Vineyard yesterday about 5:30 pm. Was surprised how low it flew over

I live two miles from Otis and we get strange things flying in at night blacked out all the time. One night though the sihlouette was unmistakable. Two Nighthawk stealths came in right over the old shack. I miss the old days when the Ruskies would fly by in a bear bomber at 2 in the morning and the Otis guys would scramble out in the Delta Darts. Talk about a rumble, the windows would sing with the reflected noise till I thought they would shatter.
