View Full Version : Fantasy Time: You have 100K for your next boat
Hooper 09-29-2004, 06:38 PM I don't know about you guys, but I spend a lot of time looking at boats. I love to cruise the marinas and boatyards to see what's tied up and what being worked on. And Boats.Com is at the top of my favorites list...
So, if you had an extra 100K laying around and you didn't have to fund the kids college, build an addition to your home, or sock it away for retirement, what would you have tied up to the dock? Would it be a nice new 29' SeaVee with a pair of Yammies, or maybe a 26' Regulator? How about a slightly used Carolina Classic, or a Silverhawk, maybe a new SeaCraft?
I think I would stay with the tried and true, a downeast hull, probably a H&H, or a Duffy with a single diesel. I know it wouldn't be very fancy for the budget of 100K, but it would be dry, and have a heater and a place or two to sit down. Above all, it would be economical to run. It's what I have fished on most of my life and dollar for dollar I think I would get the most boat for the money...
How 'bout it? :D

beamie 09-29-2004, 07:01 PM Hooper,
Like you I always look at boats. But it sickens me the prices of new boats. 100K will practically get you noting new above 26Ft new. Brokers of used boats are also crasy with there prices. Often seeing boats with book values of 12K selling for 26K.
I Love the Fortier 26 but try and find a used one with diesel less than 15 yrs old for under 70K. I am sure the new ones are 120K or so?
This is why I am still pondering of building another boat.
Jon
Vectorfisher 09-29-2004, 07:27 PM I would buy a slightly used 26 or 28' Vector center console boat motor and trailer and put the rest toward fishing gear and additional electronics and gas. Now if you had said 200k I would have said a used blackfin or Bertram that needed new power and some TLC;) Of course this is only if I had that kind of money laying around collecting dust, otherwise I will repower my current boat until death due us part:D
Raider Ronnie 09-29-2004, 07:31 PM 28 ft BHM :)
Mr. Sandman 09-29-2004, 07:40 PM sounds like a man who just came back from a boat show with lots of dreams.:D
fishsmith 09-29-2004, 08:38 PM I love fantasy land. I'll take a 270 Shamrock Mackinaw - I'm sure its over 100k, but I love the look Shamrock boats.
fishaholic18 09-29-2004, 09:44 PM Oh Boy, don't get me dreaming again. I see a Hydrasport or Grady:D
Hooper 09-29-2004, 09:59 PM 100K doesn't buy much these days, does it!
Mr. Sandman 09-30-2004, 05:02 AM A predator....but I need about 400K.
Regulator 24FS (my decision)
Scout 282 Abaco (wifes decision)
MakoMike 09-30-2004, 06:42 AM You could multiply that by ten and it still wouldn't be enough to buy my dream boat! As the other have said, 100k doesn't buy much these days.
30' RAMPAGE !!!!
SHWEET BOAT....:)
One of these days??
Bronko 09-30-2004, 08:01 AM 26 ft Cape Cod 350 Yanmar deisel
26 Regulator
27 Conch (Edey&Duff)
RIROCKHOUND 09-30-2004, 08:34 AM How about unlimted budget...
63 Jim Smith for offshore/canyons (plus down south in the cold weather months)
then a 23 sea craft for inshore work
and a 17ft whaler for shallow water/nights
:D
Right now I've got a 13ft whaler, and have access to a 29 Blackfin.... but I can dream cant I:happy: :smash:
quick decision 09-30-2004, 08:57 AM 29' blackfin sport fisherman: black on black, twin cats
S-Journey 09-30-2004, 10:24 AM 100k would be a downpayment on my fantasy boat. I've always wanted a decked out 50' Wesmac, but would settle for a 46' Jarvis Newman or 45' Youngs Brothers. Boat would be rigged to the gills for tuna - sharking ect. Would need to get a 1000hp MAN LE403 to push the baby along too. I'd be looking at 500k easily.
Here a pic of the baby, hmmm someday?

I used to dream about that boat when I was a kid....
Fly Rod 09-30-2004, 11:55 AM :) If I wanted to have a little comfort and be out of the weather my boat of choice would be the Dusky 256css w/300hpdiesel cummins or yanmar!!!! $62,000.00 w/motor!!!!!!
www.dusky.com
MakoMike 09-30-2004, 12:22 PM You ain't gonna touch a 30 foot anything w twin diesels for 100 grand. My dream boat is a 46 Garlington, probably about 1.5 million!
Jimbo 09-30-2004, 04:08 PM Fantasy boat? That's simple. It was a 20 to 22 foot inboard/outboard Lyman this guy named Sam Gale used to run charters out of Bass River on in the late 60's-70's. I loved that boat. Easily worth $100K to me.
macojoe 09-30-2004, 05:08 PM I would love to own a 26 foot Osprey, but no more I/O's for me!! I would get twin Yammies!!
http://www.ospreyboats.com/Models/Fisherman.htm
BigBo 09-30-2004, 10:36 PM I'm with MJ on the Osprey Boats. I'd probably opt for this one though and have lots left over for other stuff.;) That's the 22' center console cabin model.

They look nice but Don't do it....go for a diesel...will last forever and much cheaper on fuel. OB's...your lucky if you get more then 700 hours before you have serious problems. Also you get back some prime real estate in the transom
taJon 10-01-2004, 12:41 PM I like the World Cat Cuddy. Easily more than 100k but maybe a used one?
"uffah!!" 10-01-2004, 03:43 PM This is my next Boat. Hydra-Sport 2500vx
Vectorfisher 10-01-2004, 08:41 PM Uffah you can buy that with twins for 75k give or take
missing link 10-01-2004, 08:45 PM not much place to fish on that boat juding from the pic?link sr:cool:
missing link 10-01-2004, 08:51 PM 25' trophy no noise x-cept for the power steering can you say wisper quiet, dry ride even offshore check it out. all you need
oh ya how many Trophys do you see for sale compared to others? you buy one your gonna hold on to it later link:cool:
"uffah!!" 10-02-2004, 08:01 AM It has enough room for the fishing I do. I already have a 20 ft
Hyhra-Sport and love it. Just like this one.
Vectorfisher 10-02-2004, 12:17 PM Link that boat was designed for family 1st and fishing 2nd it is not like my 2450 walk. Did you become a salesman for Trophy?:D I think you need to get on some other boats my 24' has twice as much fish room as the 25 Trophy walk does:rolleyes:
macojoe 10-02-2004, 12:28 PM I was talking to a sales rep for Trophy at the boat show over the winter. He did his best to sell me one!
But he could not answer ??? to my satfaction, So I told him he couldn't sell me a Trophy if it was the last boat on earth!! I would hollow out a Log first!! :laughs:
Sorry Link!! Nice Boat!! :laughs:
"uffah!!" 10-02-2004, 12:38 PM The fishing deck on my present boat is 8'6" X 8'6". Thats the number one reason I got the Hydra-Sport. It had the most room
deckwise, than all the others I looked at. Don't get me wrong, I
am very happy with my boat. The only thing, I would like more
cabin roon. So I can stay aboard the boat on weekends. I have
put shore power aboard, I have electric heat, and even a 5" TV.
Its got a port-a-party, and even an 8'6" X 8'6" colapsable bimmini
to cover the rear deck.
If I had 100,000 lying around I would by this boat:
http://tinyurl.com/4kdj4
and then take the extra 40K and by an F350 to pull it with.
Not saying I wouldn't slip it, because I would, but the F350 and trailer would be convenient. Also, I just want a big truck regardless.

KLMulder 10-02-2004, 04:43 PM 30K to buy a boat and 70K to rent the PENN Catalog girl's to cruise around for a day.:D

That's a nice rig at a nice price! That one won't last long. My wife would love to have a cabin to get in outta the crap; fog, rain, spray....
capesams 10-03-2004, 05:34 AM It's funny...I can remember the first time those came out..I was at a local boat yard,,,price tag! $7,500.00
fishweewee 10-03-2004, 05:57 AM Take a 100 grand, put it into a relative value trade on the stock market.
Then buy a 40 foot Cabo. :laughs:
And then sell it the week afterwards for half of what I paid for it, after I find out I can't afford the gas bill. :crying:
Hooper 10-03-2004, 06:02 AM I have heard the 35 Cabo hull is a dog, but the 31 is a real performer, don't know much of the 40, tho I've seen one up close and :btu: Sure looks sweet...
afterhours 08-12-2005, 06:12 PM downpayment on a topaz 32' express.
ProfessorM 08-12-2005, 07:11 PM I wouldn't buy a boat I would just charter the best boats and captains every weekend during the season for the rest of my life. You could probably do that off the interest of a good 100 grand investment and none of the headaches of boat ownership. Paul
Raider Ronnie 08-12-2005, 07:16 PM I would love to own a 26 foot Osprey, but no more I/O's for me!! I would get twin Yammies!!
http://www.ospreyboats.com/Models/Fisherman.htm
Osprey went out of buisness this year, so you would have to look for a used one!
They did make an awesome Volvo diesel inboard with a dual prop out drive!!!
nightfighter 08-12-2005, 09:27 PM http://www.gunboat.info/home.html

Fisherwoman 08-13-2005, 07:41 AM Polar 27 ft CC, Would not change our new boat for the world, we are very impressed with it. If you want a heavy, nice riding center consol, very dry, with twin 225's yamaha's 4 strokes and a fishing machine, :bl: you can't go wrong. Got boat, motors and trailer, with all the goodies for under $100,000. Also has a full size head, Life is good!!!!!!!!!!

Julie,
One improvement if to do if you were to do it again would be to get the f250s instead of the 225s you have and that boat will do between 60 - 65 mpr!!!
Fisherwoman 08-13-2005, 09:43 AM RR, no need to go any faster than 55, the faster you go the more fuel you burn. I like it just were it is!!!!
beamie 08-13-2005, 10:28 AM I don't think there is any need to do anything over 25   Sounds like you guys not only want to catch those footballs but also run them over and show them whos boss :bl:
seabass 08-13-2005, 01:50 PM 28 Hydra sport w/a ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
likwid 08-13-2005, 02:48 PM Jarvis Newman 32, cat diesel w/ dry stack through the house and keel coolers.
Never have to come out of the water that way, and you run fresh instead of salt through the engine. :hihi:
http://www.jarvisnewman.com/i32b.jpg
or a used late 90's N/M 50 (hmmm ex-Snow Leopard) w/ full B&G and 3DL set up for offshore. footballs? hello Azores.
Bass Babe 08-13-2005, 07:10 PM 30+' gaff-rigged schooner, wooden hull, all the nav goodies, watermaker, tender, cannon, large poo tank. The best of both worlds -- sailing AND fishing. One day, one day.
Bimini 24 center console with Yanmar diesel.
