we got it last spring at the old house and it was pisser, we moved aug1 and since then they basically suck. 4 appointments blown off without even a call, and they finally showed up last week and installed it with a guy that wasn't scared to go up on the roof. The next day the living room box craps out and I gotta pay $40 for a replacement and ship the old one back. It's better than nuthin is all I can say..... But i'm not a big DTV fan after all this baloney...

The wx thing is a myth perpetuated by the cable companies so they don't lose business. unless you don't have a decent shot southwest to aim the dish then you will never have a problem.

ive had it for a few years and love it. i installed it myself, it took a bit of time but got it aimed after a couple hours. when we get a bad storm my signal might go out for a bit. with the remenance of ivan and jeanne i lost it for a little bit but 99% of the time its fine, and ya cant beat the price on it compared to cable.

Had Comcast for both TV and internet until DirectTV. Now that I switched (over a year now) I'll never go back to cable. Their customer support is awful, the image was fuzzy even after multiple service requests (I was going to buy a new TV thinking our TV was bad. After hooking up DirectTV, I was floored by how clear the image was), computer internet went down constantly---- Comcast really SU*&S!!! (www.comcastsucks.com)

We're moving in about 1 week so I'll be bringing my dish with me. Since I did the last install myself, the move should go pretty smooth. Unplug, unbolt dish and reinstall in other house. Should be a no-issue move!

EDIT: They offer a TV guide for something like $2.99/month (cancel it after a few months after you get to know the channels). It has the complete channel line-up which helps. There is also a GUIDE button on the remote. ;)

we have it its better than cable.. don't worry you will get used to it really quick.. just look on the tv guide channel its like channel 209 i think its in with the 6 ESPN's (shweet! he he) and just watch for channels u wanna watch i know NESN is channel 623 sports channels are up there too. kids channels are from 290 to i'd say 311 mtv and music channels 331 to 339 and from 802 to 845.. lol hope that helps some how

Maybe you could educate me on this. My company offers a great deal to employees on something called Dish Network, which I think is like DirecTV. Free dish and install., free installation for up to 4 TV's, free activation, credit on first month's bill, $100.00 rebate. So do I need a receiver for each TV? How does this replace my Cable Internet access (Optimum Online)? I should know the answers, I work for a satellite provider, but you all seem to have a better handle on it.
I could also upgrade to HDTV. Do I actually need an HDTV or will my regular one work if I wanted to wait until prices drop more?

I have Direct TV, and I will never go back to cable. NFL Ticket...enough said. Have only had 1 issue with weather and it was raining so hard I thought my house was going to float away, so Ive had no problem with it.

Jimbo, if youwant to watch different things on each tv, you need separate recievers. It is similar to Direct tv. Not sure about their internet, imo stick with something wire like a DSL, or cablefor the internet.


Here is the deal with service issues. The dish works on line of site. If it can't see the satelite, you get no signal. The dish is aimed at an elavation angle of roughly 32 degrees. Then it is aimed to the SW at around 235 degrees. When heavy rain, or snow storms move in there will be a drop in signal strength. The drop depends on the severity of the storm. As the signal strength drops, the picture will be fine untill it hits around 45percent. At that point you would start to see blocks appearing in the picture. These are digital packets of information. As the signal strength continues to drop, next is freeze framing. When the signal strength hits near the bottom, the picture goes out. Now if you have a dish that is peaked in in the high 90's you should be fine about 99 percent of the time. I think out of all of these dishes that I installed I only saw 1 dish that hit 100. Most were in the 92 to 99 percent range. Some in the 70-90 percent, anything under 70 and I would try to talk the customers out of it.
If you experience problems during storms, check you signal strength, make a note. Then check it on a ood day, and see if you an tweak it in a bit.

Forgot to mention there are alot of different sales options out there for the dish. You can now get it through Verizon, and my friends that did tell me the package deal, and the monthly price were excellent.

I do have Wx issues. Reception suffers during storms.

I love directtv. the only time I have any problems is when it rains directly in to the dish (windblown sideways rain) which doesnt happen to often. great picture, and a lot cheaper than cable. :)

How much does it coat per month for say, 3 tv's?

costs me 40 a month for 2, i beleive its 5.99 per tv

we have it on 2 tv's it 5 bucks for the 2nd one. and like rn said.. great picture it rarely goes out.
