Been using this real a little when I use a spinning - not a bad real. I thoroughly stripped the pinion gear this weekend on some 6-8# albies. Is this a common occurence? I remember hearing I should have gotten the yellow instead of the black. How is their support on these? I hear they are not selling them anymore but have them still listed on their website (when the server is up).

Yep. The 6500 just can't take it. Send back - often Pure Fishing will replace with a 7500 if you ask nice.

I've put a lot of fish recently on a couple of yeller ones. A bunch of those fish were decent albies too.

I remember hearing bad things about the black 6500. I think the yellow one is a little tougher, but the slower retrieve makes Albies a challenge sometimes.

YES its the way of the 6500 GV pro . my black 6500 hasnt burned out yet but I havent used it much . I use my yellow 6500 and a yellow 7500 when fishing spinning .
send it to pure fishing attention : Bob Hulme . I dont know how they will remedy your problem but Bob is top notch and will do all he can to rectify the situation . If he gives you a choice get a yellow 7500 or a yellow 6500 as a last resort . also let me know how they hooked you up . I know Im going to need one swapped out .

Sent it back to Pure Fishing with a nice note on how I'd like a Yellow 6500 and one showed up the following week.

I have one that I've been trying to kill on blues here in NJ, not one problem with the reel. What are U guys doing to your reels? Loosen them drags fellers lol.

Tightening those 2 allen head screws at the bottom of the reel stem, under the rubber cap will go a long way in keeping the reel from stripping out. I usually take one screw out, put a small drop of loc tite on and replace it, then do he other one. If you do this only remove one screw at a time.

It has a plastic body. It torques and the gears get misaligned. Gotta go with a loose drag.

The yellow one does it too, BTW.
