I'm back-

The weather was just horrible out there, and after talking to some friends on the mainland I couldnt justify staying there and maybe catch a few big fish, when i could go home, and catch a hundred or more fish....
I didnt land anything worth mentioning, but one fish took me for a ride. For all I know it could have been a shark, and when it was done with me I was left feeling used and violated:hihi: This fish peeled off more line than any fish i have ever fought in my lifetime.. With my VS250, it took about 3/4 of my spool on 2 slid runs an broke me off on a boulder. All i can say for the guys who are going out there is that there is little to zero bait on the southside and the plugs that I and others has luck with were by far the last plugs that a Bockisland fisherman would use...
I did catch my first albie and that was a gift i will never forget. What an awesome fish that was... It was a big one, weighing around 10-13 lbs and it burned out my penn slammer 360:eek:

So I'm back, and happy to be with my family... thats also another big factor why i left early:love:

Ya must have run into my buddy, RS out there. ;)

Eben - tell me more about your burned out Penn 360 Slammer. I know of a guy who cooked his 560 Slammer on a Cape Fear rod (demo outfit) on a med tuna - but he never went into what actually happened to the drag. Please iterate. :)

Maddog yes Rich and I fished for 2 days.... great guy, and he knows his stuff. Infact i need to get him up to my home turf sometime soon:D

the penn is grinding a bit when i turn the handle. I havent taken a good look at it, but before the fish it was a very smooth reel. now after that fish it is not the same... I dont think its the drag, but the gears.......I'll strip it down in a few days and see what is wrong... who knows i might have got sand in it

Strider.... I wish.. i wish..:)

Eben, sucks you didn't see much action. Got any wood you don't need? :D

About the slammer...

I dont think its the drag, but the gears.......

My 560 is on the shelf after one season, gummed up every time it looked at the water, stripped a couple teeth on the main gear last time I used it. They're made out of some kind of alloy or aluminum, not very durable

You need another VS I think :smash:

eben, have you got little eben his own surf rod and VS 150 yet? nother 2 years, he's gonna want to fish badly:D what line were ya fishing on the 360 for the albie? what drag setting? did it get splashed in salt? i can only say this: score for the shimano's;) What line were you fishing on the VS 250? i'd like to get an idea for how far that fish ran.

I checked out the slammer today and it seems to be fine. I think i got sand under the skirted spool and after I hosed off all my gear it worked its way out...

for line on my 250, i was using 50 lb test Power pro
