View Full Version : Keeping the peace
TheSpecialist 10-11-2004, 07:33 PM This website IMO is one of the best websites on the internet. It started out small with a handful of members who were dedicated to catching stripers. Although I was not one of the original members, this place sure does feel like home to me. Over the course of time this site has grown by leaps and bounds, and with that there were many changes. Some of the changes have been awsome, like the addition of the plug building , how to, and sponser specials forums, and the addition of the sponsers themselves. Many new members with tactics, and ideas to share.
Unfortunately with the good there always comes some bad. Some of the things I have seen are spot burning, fighting, name calling, the forming of certain cliques, and those who appoint themselves as moderators.
While it nice for John, and the rest of us moderators to have others watching the board, it is best not to be confrontational. It is John, and the moderators jobs to take care of these things. All that happens when you become the internet vigilante is arguments, threats, and hurt feelings. If you see something in a post, or a post itself that you think needs attention please Report the post to a moderator . One of us will take care of it.
Try not to be too exact with spots, remember that there are many more people that read these boards just to see where the fish are. Lets make them work for it by signing up and contributing some thing useful.
This fall as the fishing winds down, and you spend every waking minute surfing this board, let's remember that this is a fishing site and thats all it is. There is no need to argue, name call and hold grudge matches, lets all try and be friendly and not be like those others sites.
Always remember that the primary goal of this website is about bringing people together who love to catch stripers.

JohnR 10-12-2004, 09:16 AM Bill - thanks for bringing this up :btu:
It is too easy to forget that this is really an online community of (mostly) friendly people. People that you would likely sit down and have a beer or coffee with and get along just fine... Fact is many people here have met others thru this site and fish and in many cases hunt together. Have taught skills back and forth and shared ideas. It's really pretty cool to look at all that from a distance and seeing people grow as friends and see some competition growing between people too...
But lets not lose sight that this is a "FISHING" board and not an argument board, a long distance pi$$ing contest board, or a political talk board :rollem: ....
Thanks for making this site one of the best out there, all of you!
spence 10-12-2004, 09:30 AM I disagree on the idea that political discussion shouldn't be welcome on a fishing board. Fishing draws a very diverse group of people, and as such the opinions are much broader and the quality of discussion is enhanced.
Where else could a lawyer, carpenter, student, sales person and stay at home dad all get together and debate?

outfished 10-12-2004, 12:45 PM Couldn't of said it better myself. Although I've only been a member for a couple of months, I've always had my questions answered by folks who are much more knowledgeable than I on the subject of fishing and I always try to add my two cents worth when I feel its warrented. I've learned some good things here and always enjoy the comraderie of my fellow sportman and theses are the reasons I keep coming back, unlike those "other" boards. Keep up the good work! :bl:
piemma 10-12-2004, 01:08 PM That's it spence. No more tips from me. From now on Oakman and I are fishin' Wood River. Good on the outgoing.
Skip N 10-12-2004, 01:52 PM Oh my god I agree with Spence! :D
piemma 10-12-2004, 01:57 PM All kidding aside. This is the best site for striperholics and John does a great job keeping it straight.
chris L 10-12-2004, 03:46 PM speaking of pissing contests ...... Ill be right back

-spence But for a while lately, political talk was acting as the rudder more than fish talk. Which is fine for some places but not for a fishing site. Open and honest discussion SHOULD be welcome and really is but what was happening in the Scuppers was far more rhetoric and flaming and far from true discussion...
Thanks Piemma :wavey:
