If you need to submit a list to the tourney , put Smokey's name down too....Paul Laplante. He's real doubtful but you never know!

John, has it been verified that teams need to submit names of all participants? i was at the CTSurfcaster's meeting last week, and they had not heard anything about it.

We got a game plan? Meeting up? Or just running around like chickens with our heads cut off hoping to catch something worth weighing in? Oh and where's the eats?

Greetings from The Hartford Surf Fishing Club! I saw you guys listed on the RIMS(Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen) site as previous winners of the tourney and thought I'd look you up. Nice site! Nice to hear some other folks getting excited about the contest. I look forward to these things each year as just another great way to enjoy the sport( and a good reason to go fishing that the missus can't argue with to much! ). As for your earlier discussion about being a real club, I think as long as they get a check they're cool with it. It's a pretty informal affair and its really about the comraderie and spirit of friendly competition kind of thing. Looks like the weather might be a bit iffy, strong south winds and 4-7 ft seas, but there's enough territory that everyone should be able to find a rock to hide behind or a back pond thats fishable. Tides are late on sat. night too so breachways won't be good till after midnight. Watch Hill is closer to me but the Pt. Judith area has more/better access so I'm thinking of starting in that area. Good Luck and hopefully I'll get a chance to meet a few of you. Steve Higgins, Hartford Surf:D

3 pm, SK Town beach in Matunuck, grass picnic area with grills and tables next to beach---- sound like a plan? :D

Can park in lot next to the area

Will just need a bag of charcoal and some fluid, and something burnable

And if its snotty, there's always the Ocean Mist

OK, I'm in.
I will fish tonight 9PM-1AM, 4-7AM Sat, and 4-7am Sunday.
or something along those lines

Pat, SK Town Beach is in matunuck, take the matunuck beach road exit, go down a mile or so, beach is on the right before you get to to the curve in the road that leads down to the ocean mist and deep hole.

John, I checked the beach, they took the grills in for the winter, but the tables and trash cans are still there. I think I have a hibachi somewhere, if anybody has a grill to put the charcoal in would be nice. There is also a market across the street, so we should be able to pick up anything else we need on the spot

Question on size of fish to weigh in: The first fish I got this am was maybe 15#. After being in twinksville all week, I thought there were finally some good fish around, so I let it go for a bigger one. That was it for size, back to the twinks :smash:

SO, is there a minimum size we should bother weighing in? Don't want to weigh a twink, but some years have been tough and a smaller fish may be better than no fish :smash:

JohnR
10-16-2004, 07:43 AM
OK - I can bring my grill to go thing - not charcoal but still convenient...

As for fish size, tough call - I hope to have an update soon on fish size. Normally teen fish wouldn't get weighed but over the last 5 years sometimes teen fish counted in the top 3 and some times even one

JohnR
10-16-2004, 08:28 AM
OK - I talked to BP and we have some low teen bass weighed in and a bluefish.

According to what info I have, the leading bass weighed in by any team is about 20. Some people have been weighing in 7-8 #ers ...

I fished Quonny last night until 1:30 am. I got 1 fish which performed its own self release at my feet. Anyway, I went by Weekapaug B&T after I left and it seemed they were closed. No lights on - I thought they were open all weekend for this. I will only be getting out later tonight. So if anyone wants to meet up let me know. I will check back later. Maybe see some of you out there.
