Fisherwoman 10-13-2004, 10:05 AM Well finally got the totals done from the fishing shack!!! What a freakin awesome albie year, the best we have ever had in all the years we have been doing the trip. Was great to have the fishing family back together once again and also some newbies who did very well this year and got there 1st albie's.

Well it's clear....you just need to buy a place here!:D
Nice stats!
one bone:( It was a shame they never came inshore...there were millions of them 6.5 miles SE from where you were fishing all derby long.
Bass never charged the beach here either but remained off shore.
I think because the bait that was here all summer split and we were left with a sand eel about 1.5" long that was as thick as a tooth pick. Bass need more meat. Offshore for some reason there was more bait. go figure
Christian 10-13-2004, 12:58 PM AWSOME!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAYBY THE WAY!!!
but, only 21 bass?:(
Fisherwoman 10-13-2004, 01:18 PM Hey Sandman, was great seeing you over there, next year we will definatly have to get together. I just don't think that the fall run of bass has really started yet. The water temps have been so cool all summer and there has been no dramatic change in the water temps for the past several weeks that things just haven't gotten going yet.
I was surprised at the lack of Baby Bunker over there this year for sure. I did get a couple of all nighters in at those spots we talked about but got the big SKUNK!!! Will defiantly be getting out over the next week and do some searchin for some bassies on the boat and the surf if the body heals up enough to function!!! Best of luck to ya for the rest of the derby, may the fish god's be with you!!!
Thanks Christian and yes only 21 bass, the biggest being 17lbs and that was it. I think the ones from this area and north are getting ready to start doing that feeding thing as I had heard that up until last week there were still plenty of 20 lber still in Maine. It has been a strange year to say the least, but I still think the season is 2 weeks off like it has been all year. Time will tell, but I wouldn't be putting any rods away yet!!!!
;) BRING IT ON!!!!!
BEETLE 10-13-2004, 01:37 PM BRING IT ON..............I'm ready Jules !! ........................
Be fishing a few "secret spots" in about 30 minutes.
Pulled out a small blue yesterday just "kicking around" after work.
Thanks to Jules, Bill and all you others (you know who you are) for showing me there is life after work !!!! :btu:
Gotta fish now
seeeeyaaa
JohnR 10-13-2004, 02:20 PM I'll take credit for a bakers dozen of the albies and a burnt up reel in the process :smash: - was a lot of fun... Bluefish don't count...
Christian, bassing was slow. The boat guys & glas could do OK but for the shore people you had to be in the right place when they showed up. Spent one night seriously looking for bass (was only there for 4) and other than a brief false dawn flurry, there was no bass at some SWEET fishing holes
Mr. Sandman 10-14-2004, 06:06 AM Its been lean from shore for bass this fall....I am exhausted at the moment putting in some serious time with only spotty results.
Before I leave each spot I turn on my light and look around...water is gin clear and no to very little bait in sight...zippo most places except for some bulemic sand eels around poge
I wish it "hasn't started" but I think they swam inshore thru the canal and bypassed us this year. no bait = no fish. Also I think the bass population is a lot worse then most "experts" think. I would like to see it go back to one at 36 and stop comm activity AND work on the forage fish issue... but we know the DMF has trouble working on more then one fish at a time  but that is another thread!
Regardless I am already looking foreward to next year! :D
(still have a couple more nights to "keep it honest")
Fisherwoman 10-14-2004, 10:08 AM Hey Sandman, wouldn't give up just yet, still fish here in Boston, just not enough extreme temps to get the fish moving all that much yet. Keep givin it hell, you may get rewarded well for your efforts. I have been heelin for a couple of days, about time to do some bass exploring and rip some lips!!!
:p
KJLane 10-14-2004, 11:52 AM Sandman,
I wouldn't think all that many fish shot through the canal, judging by the absence of fish along the elizabeths. I fished the derby for 14 days straight, last week of september into october. Like everyone else is saying, I found the albacore off Chappy to be the only consistent fishing. I managed only 2 bass in the 30 lb class, an extremely weak showing for the time and gas and eel money I invested!
I'm banking on Fisherwoman being correct, a big push of bass is still forthcoming...
Mr. Sandman 10-14-2004, 12:12 PM Ok, you talked me into it....I'll go again tonight:)
Shawn B 10-14-2004, 01:15 PM Wow, great pic. Sandman are those all albies busting?
Mr. Sandman 10-14-2004, 01:19 PM I wish I took it but I didn't...bass blitz at montauk a few days ago.
This is what the MV Shack crew was looking for... it just didn't materilze
reelecstasy 10-14-2004, 01:20 PM WOW, love to be tossing into that mayhem...sweet
RIROCKHOUND 10-14-2004, 01:50 PM That is the true definition of stupid fishing :D
My father and I found a blitz like that that was on and off for a few DAYS a few years back south of a beach in Newport.... was crazy stupid fishing... almost got boring... ALMOST :smash: :D :D
Fisherwoman 10-14-2004, 04:21 PM test
bassmaster 10-14-2004, 05:51 PM :D can I have the needle fish, even if its a real one:D
kippy 10-14-2004, 06:18 PM blitzes make all those days getting skunked worth it..there's nothing like it!
:D
fishermom 10-14-2004, 11:39 PM Bill and Jules,
Thanks for an awesome weekend :D I may have caught only one fish all weekend but having it be my first albie ever was fantastic:happy: Hopefully the Fishing Shack will return in '05 and I will be there for a full week. You guys are awesome:thanks:
Mr. Sandman 10-15-2004, 08:14 AM Jules and Bill,
I want to thank you guys for giving me that simple but awesome jig along with the fly teaser rig. I have to say it kicked ass!...I got my largest surf albie with it 10.09 on my 10# spin setup...I managed several others that day too but that was the largest. The next day I broke it off during a fight with quite an audience. I had walked down to the beach with my 8# rod with that jig about 6:00am. No one was doing much. Mr and Mrs. Clay (the folks that donate the truck and live on chappy) were there (***SUPER*** nice people too!!) and I walked up and on the 1st cast hooked into a screamer...Well they would not let me live it down...They could not belive it...I heard comments like "I've been here since 4:30 and you walk up and on the 1st cast hook up!..what are you using?...you will never forget this day!, I can't believe this guy!"...anyway after a nearly empty spool I get bogged down in weed and current and my line breaks. I was able to get a couple before it ended on the standard jigs.
1) That jig is very effective...
2) That fly was fantastic in the water! You also gave me a bent one that I straightened and attached to my wifes fly rod...which yielded her 1st bass on a flyrod! It was a small fish but she was pumped! Below is a picture happy spouse with flyrod during battle.
needless to say I would like to pre- order some for next season...
I don't know if you tie the rigs commerically or not but if you do put me down for 25 jigs, and leaders (with those kewl spro snaps and swivels)...w/ those flys teaser. I'll also take a dozen assorted fly's that you like bare.
I was never much of a big albie fan...caught a few each season but I see an adiction starting....Again...thanks for those tips!
Next year...albie on a fly rod.
Jim
Fisherwoman 10-15-2004, 09:19 AM Hey Fishermom, glad you had a good time and really glad you got your first albie, they are the balls but no discription you give will ever be the same as actually hookin one up. We will let ya know what's going on for next year some time in January.
MR Sandman, you are welcome and I told you that little secret weapon is deadly, I have caught all of my biggest albies on that lure and that fly combo. Glad the wife caught a bass on the fly that is awesome!!! and yes we do tie those and sell them commercialy, so I will take good care of ya and I can get a great deal on those lures also so you will be all set. I usually start tying in January after deer season, but if you need any at all before that for the end of this season let me know as I have some left and will drop you some in the mail. Aren't those spro swivels and barrels awesome, I just got an order in of 1000 barrels to use on this years teaser rigs, they are a little more expensive but definatly will never pull apart.
Hope you do well the last days here of the derby, may you be blessed with that big bassie. Things here are starting to look very fall run like in the last few days so it is definatly starting to happen. Get ready and GO RIP SOME LIPS!!!!!
BasicPatrick 10-15-2004, 09:23 AM Fisherwoman/Sandman,
