Any input guys on Gags Black Mamba Minnow 7". I wanna try it tonight so if I get lucky haven't gooten my 20" yet all schoolies this past few weeks.

I love this lure. As far as casting, I think it casts better than a bomber or other similar swimmers.

Yes, the one with red eyes is a proven killer at night. I was at a spot this weekend and that particular plug was the ticket.

yup that's the one I have got that one last weekend haven't tried it yet. Is it also the same as other swimmers reel it fast on the first 2 seconds then reel slooowwwww?

I vary the speed, but slow is the ticket. This lure does not dive very deep so you can use it in shallower locations too.

ive got a black and a blue one, well had them. they got a bit beat up and i lost the hooks on the blue on to a blue earlier in the year and lost the rear hook to a striper a few weeks ago, they did catch a lot of fish for sure but they arent that durable. I loaded the black one with a few split shot and i could cast it pretty good, it was great for teaser delivery. Atleast they are kinda cheap.

Stamina sells 7 inch swimmers that are basically the same thing as a mambo... all you got to do is put on spitrings and hooks.. i blieve they are something like 3 bucks a piece.

2 bucks if you buy them in bulk... they work... and you can stock em with VMC's.... :D... I think I figured just over 3 each with split rings and VMC's... good bargin....

They even have some of the same colors... like black back gold belly... i wish they has blurple though:(

All Black in the 6" broken back. I have been killing Bass for over a month on this lure. Ordered 1/2 a dozen from Terminal Tackle and trimmed the lip so it doesn't dive very deep. One night I got 7 Bass between 34 and 37" and then the last fish was 30 and change.

replace the back hook with VMC single with some bucktail and replace the front tremble with VMC 4x stong tremble you have your self a cow killer

Take the back hook completly off and the tail off the plug will slap the top of the water with a real slow retrieve. When you say trimming the lip what do you mean? Definetly put new hooks and split rings on them. Olive and silver is a really good full moon color also.

Canal Rat. Of course. I forgot to say that. I use 4/0 Siwash in the back and Mustad 3/0, 3 Extra Strong #3561ED. 4/0 are a little to big on the 6" broken back and affect the action

The lip on the Gag's 6" broken Back is flat like this ______.
I trim it so it is "U" shaped. Makes it ride high in the water and wiggle more. I use a Dremel but you could do it with a jack knife.

I just use a plain Siwash. I use to get real fancy with Flasaboo, bucktail, feathers etc. I have found that Bass are "headhunters". Over 90% of the fish I take on plugs take the front treble hooks. Seems like Bluefish hit from the rear because they can chop the bait. Bass need to swallow it head first because of the dorsal spines.

are they also deadly on daylight like early morning and what color?

I use Black with the Red eye and the Chicken Scratch color(Yellow and White with the red gill stripes). I don't know if they are as effective in daylight as I only fish in the dark.

the chicken scratch is good daytime/overcast plug

beware of breaking mambos under the strain of heavy gear and big fish. there are mambo substitutes out there will hold up. i have yet to meet a mambo i couldn't break on a good fish.

Use natural colors (like olive) during daylight conditions.

thanks fishweewee it's hard to find an olive color like that I'll check #^&#^&#^&#^&'s or SA if they have one. I was not able to venture to other places co'z my wife is 3 months preggy. My number one critic when it comes to fishing so I'm just concentrating on 2 areas near my place right now maybe next year I might expand it .:mad: :af: :mad:

They should not be hard to find online at all! Probably the most common color is "eel" which is olive back, gold side and white belly. Joe Lyons sells 'em on his site.
