what is the world record
View Full Version : what is the world record harthebar 10-02-2001, 07:48 PM what is the world record JohnR 10-02-2001, 07:52 PM Welcome to SB - All McReynolds in Joisey. 78 POUNDS and some change caught in the early 80s - I think on a Rebel if memory serves me right... The Mass Record is a 73 pounds - officially Antoine Stezko and an unofficial 73 for Charlie Cinto - that record was bounced beacuse the fish was caught on a wire line I believe... Where are you from?? harthebar 10-02-2001, 08:27 PM im also from atlantic city nj where mcreynolds is from i know albert well but i havent seen him some time..we worked togeter as lifeguards on the beach in atlantic city back in 1977 1978 but i heard a rumor that some one caught a bigger one back in june 2001 guees it wasnt true...from up in new england ..yo let me know if you get this im new on this dave JohnR 10-02-2001, 08:45 PM Nah - either someone is able to keep a big secret (not likely) or that's a bad rumor - Although I'm fixin' to change that over the next month of two... Again - welcome to Striped-Bass... harthebar 10-02-2001, 08:52 PM john r where you from....did you know the spot where albert got the fish ...it was a howling noreastern lots a fish last week dave JohnR 10-02-2001, 08:57 PM I'm a recent Rho Dylander. Actually I'm from Mass, the place that keeps all the fish fed for you Jersey guys come November ;) ... I heard it was snotty and that he got dragged in a couple times buy her but the only time I've been to AC was a 3 hr gamblathon about 10 or so years ago on the way to DC. Up here, we prefer Southwest winds... harthebar 10-02-2001, 09:29 PM 00000000000000000000000000there was lots off hottspots...but are they out inthe open or is this a secrest world here...let me know and i will give you a few...but i want to get out i need some somespots also let me know harthebar JohnR 10-02-2001, 09:38 PM There's actually a growing contingent of Jersey types hanging around here. But that is a lot of coastline to cough up a fish or two... Personally, I won't be making trips to Jersey for a while as the family thing keeps me from traveling too far. Of course, places like the Cape, the Islands, the end of my street, SECRET I S L A N D, and South County Rhode Island will need to do for now... moving water, structure, & bait - thats the secret - but you already know that, right? harthebar 10-02-2001, 09:57 PM i agree must of my catchest ar along piers with pipes running down Mr. Sandman 10-03-2001, 10:20 AM with regard to "records" yes I am sad to say the NJ holds it for now...I remember quite a bit of contraversy about his catch but it has been on the books now for quite some time. Tonys surf catch on the cape was big news but was short lived when Al from NJ beat it. There have been bass weighed in at Fultons fish market (NY city) (that came from the MD area that was 87 lbs and there was one caught a long time ago in a net the topped 100lbs and it was gutted the estimate was 115+... And I read a long time ago about a net catch of 125 lbs in NC in the late 1800's....but this is history. Today, anything over 50 is big news, 60 is a real long shot these days and 70+ is like winning powerball. You have to wonder what happed to the year class of fish where tony's and al's came from? could there be a great grand mom of bass out there...I doubt it. From what I read I don't think they can live that long. But there is serious hope for the future. I fished alot for bass as a boy with my dad in the 1960's ( I'm 44) and there were A LOT of fish around those days, tons of schoolies in the bays just like the last few years have been showing. (back then the limit in NY was 16 in and there was no bag limit or season on the catch) The sad thing (IMO) as in MD and VA where the commerical guys harvested 6-9' fish. I would see them lined up in the market...I could not believe my eyes. they looked like smelts. I think my kids (and your kids) may have a shot of catching record though...with all the small fish and the catch and release going on and the ches. bay in better shape these days....I think we will have a record fish of over 100 pounds in the next 20 years or so. Maybe sooner, but I doubt this year. (hope I am wrong) sandman PS woke up at 4:30 and could not sleep...headed to east beach and fished near the camper site about 2/3 of the way out to the beachway. Caught 1 about 10 pounds and dropped 1 (about the same) and saw 1 jump. not a lot of action this morning. As I was exiting I saw a bunch of guys in the rocky area to the west . That is always been a good spot. I did not fish it though today. Had to head back and get some work done.... I need to fish closer to quonnie perhaps tonight... Jaiem 10-03-2001, 01:22 PM I've spoken with commercial divers who work on (I should say under) the piers of Manhattan and the bridges of the city. Several claim to have frequently seen huge bass hanging around there. Often so big as to make them jump at first sight. CSK 10-03-2001, 01:27 PM Jaiem, I think I remember you posting something like this a while back on SOL. In any event, I park my car over by the Water Club on the FDR. Every time I walk home along the piers there I look over and think about those big muthas. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
