Hi out there I was curious did anyone loose a nice bass and a yo-zuri mag darter in the westport Little Compton area? I was just curious I got a nice fish with one stuck to its finn. The plug was rigged the way I would expect a hardcore to rig it. Just curious. I have the plug and the fish is on its way back to the south to make more little bass for us to play with. Would love to hear from you thanks chuckie

NO but I lost two big Hawg Hunter plugs down the cape last week.:mad: :mad:

Lost one a couple of weeks ago on the the south side of the Cape. Black, tied with a loop Knot.

I gave my only Habs Needlefish left to the fish gods on Block... :crying:

Exactly a week ago. Lost the fish right at the shoreline trying to land her. My buddy and I were just getting ready to leave and he was frustrated at not landing any fish that night. He had hooked up a number of times but lost them all.

Fish were still hitting but we had no flashlight and were both gone longer than we had originally planned. I handed my rod to my buddy who really just started fishing this season and told him to give it a try as I was having good luck with that plug.

It was rigged with a floating 5" Olive (looks like black pearl but in olive) YoZuri Mag Darter with clear sides and white belly. Not sure what was on the end of that leader connecting the leader to the plug but I had been using those new breakaway clips. I had to retie at somepoint and switched to tying direct since we forgot to bring flashlights and were tying lures on using the light from the small screen on my cell phone (yeah where there is a will there is a way).

Anyway that fish put up a heck of a fight and was by far the biggest striper my friend had ever tangled with in his life. A lot of back and forth ensued. Gain some line and the fish took that and more. This went on for a while. Once the fish was finally tired enough we struggled with it at the shore. It was a very tricky spot and even when the fish was finally tired enough we knew it was going to be a tricky landing. He manned the rod and worked the fish in close to me and I got the leader in my hand loosely ready to let it go if the fish bolted. It didn't and I coaxed it in along the shore but I couldn't get close enough to the fish from that location and it required sliding the fish out and up the shore about two feet before I could lip it. It was very dark and when I started to slide the fish up from the water I noticed the line was wrapped around the fish and it was coming up out of the water horizontally as if the line was attached to the dorsal fin. The line appeared to be wrapped around the fish and I knew this wasn't going to work as the main line was only 17lb test and appeared to be touching the dorsal. Just as I decided to lower the fish back down to the water to see if I could somehow unwrap the line from around the fishes body I hear that sound we all dread.

Tink. The line parted. And then the fish lay motionless on top at the waters edge for just long enough for me to consider lunging for it but surely I would have gone in due to the rough surf.

So close but yet so far.

We went back the next night and my friend managed a nice bass but it did not seem as big as that one and did not fight nearly as hard. I had to strip a bunch of line off the reel that got trashed in the battle.

So how about some more details on the fishes size?

We never got a real good look and would love to know what you would estimate its weight or length even.

The fish I cought was about forty inches. It was a nice fish. What area were you guys fishing in not trying to steal a spot but curious how much distance that fish travled. do you want the plug back? talk to you later. chuckie
