I managed to get out for 4hrs last night in the wee hrs... The surf was up bigtime, the biggest I have ever fished:hihi:.. Took a little unplanned swim:nopain: In hind sight, I should have been fishin with a friend. I bring this up because I know most of you/us do the alone thing in the middle of the night in some pretty hairy conditions. Does anyone ever wear those inflatable life jackets or anything like that? I don't but I am considering purchasing one..My night swimming has happened more than once:rollem:. Last night there was a serious undertow, that coupled with good size rocks to smash your mellon on while trying to right myself made for a minute or two of nervousness...Who am I sh!tten, I had chills just walking out there trying to get past the breakers. Felt like I was on extreme fishing/elimination, loser drowns:eek: I will say it was worth my effort, half a dozen stripes from a 24" to 37"...and I am proud to say, ALL on wood....
So, should I bother buying one? :confused:

I'm sure most of us have been there in one way or another. I think the type of fishing we do should be a "Fear Factor" final challenge. Get the PFD and wear it, what's it gonna hurt? With having said this, I "should" start wearing mine....

I own one, dont wear it as often as I should...
In real big surf on sand... I wear a wetsuit... Had to swim to a bar last night (like that time the Mews Flooded, but not quite).... but was comfortable and safe... even though fishing was slow.....

FISHED THIS PAST WEEK IN RI OFF ROCKS SOME HEAVY SURF AND I FORGIT TO BRING MY PFD.

Guys, do your family and yourselves a favor and get one of those inflatable vests. There are some that have pockets similar to a fly fishing vest, the other is the horse collar. They are relatively comfortable. Not sure if you guys remember that we lost a fisherman at Beavertail last year. I met that guy several weeks before the accident. In my estimation he was checked out. Korkers, had fished his whole life, in the bay, the surf, done it all, turkey hunter, etc. He and I had discussed the value of a vest. He did not have one. I have worn mine for the last several years. He stated that he should but just never got around to it. He bit the bullet at Beavertail during one of those off shore storms that we had last year. As experienced as he was I suspect one of those rogue waves caught him. Jamestown rescue squad tried to reach him but could not get the boat in close enough with the high surf and rocky shore. All it takes is one mistake. An inflatable vest gives you a chance to recover. Think about it.........

I have one that I really do not wear too much. Unfortunately, I just read in the Boston Globe today, ( 10/28) that Raymond Batista 69 years old ,was fishing and swept off the the rocks and drowned off the breakwall at Eastern Point in Gloucester. Eight to ten foot seas were reported out side of the breakwall. My condolences go out him and his family.

Hey reel the more I read about those self inflating PFD the better they sound. Joe L, is a huge supporter of them P.M. him with any queations he knows a lot about them. I think they only cost around 100. Pretty good life insurance in my book. I plan on purchasing on set this winter.

I dont own one but I know I will be owning one SOON!!!
