Tagger 11-02-2004, 04:10 PM yes tell us please ... seen one in a book ... exspensive .. thefishingfreak 11-02-2004, 04:37 PM check this out wire bending (http://www.tacklemaker.com/v1a.html) should be able to fabricate something like it for making the nose loops? looks pretty easy. mike capesams 11-02-2004, 05:03 PM TXS....F.F.....that was a good start.:D UserRemoved1 11-02-2004, 05:11 PM I see a subversive element acting here :laughs: capesams 11-02-2004, 06:06 PM well! could have the vermont HICK do them, but his loops r abit small. Pete F. 11-02-2004, 06:31 PM I do it low tech. Bend the wire around a screwdriver clamped to the bench and then squeeze with a pair of crimpers made for putting ends on wire, they have a rounded shape where you squeeze the crimps. I do my end loops with some of the same hi-tech equipment. Of course if I made 100 plugs a year that would be a lot. There is a world of difference between onesies and production runs. I would guess you could have it done for less than the tooling in a production setting. If your goal is to make money you are better off puttin well bought parts together than investing in equipment. Just my 2 cents from other wood product deals. Pete Tagger 11-02-2004, 08:07 PM cool video .. i do a screw driver thing too ... no problem those bends... I was thinking wire hangers.. mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:38 PM This is very simple to make and your loops will come out perfect every time and they can be made in about 20 -30 seconds each. Pic 01 shows the jig, all you need are the three holes that have the pins in them and one saw kerf with a handsaw. Take a piece of 3/4" hardwood and cut it so it's 1" wide. You can scew it to a workbench or clamp it in a vice which is what I do. The pins are pieces if 1/4" steel rod 1" long. The holes are two in a straight line and the end one at a 45 degree angle up. The holes have 1/16" between the edges so if you do the math, 5/16" between centers when you mark out the holes.Make the holes 1/2" deep. Next to the holes make a saw kerf that your wire will fit into so you can make the initial 90 degree bend nice and neat. Lay the wire the full width of the wood so you'll have an inch of wire before the bend. Now just follow the pictures, in the last picture I tighten up the loop by squeezing the ends together with a pair of pliers. ...mrpogie mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:39 PM picture 2 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:40 PM picture 3 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:41 PM picture 4 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:41 PM picture 5 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:42 PM picture 6 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:42 PM picture 7 mrpogie 11-02-2004, 08:43 PM picture 8 capesams 11-02-2004, 08:49 PM OH! OH! I have one of those and never knew how to use it:smash: TXS.M.P Striperknight 11-02-2004, 09:01 PM What is that thing he is using? mrpogie 11-02-2004, 09:07 PM Striperknight, it's just a little wire bending jig used for shaping wire I bought about 20 years ago and never used until I started building plugs. The only part I have ever used are the pins and slot for bending the wire. Should be very easy to reproduce the essential parts on a piece of hardwood. ...mrpogie BassAssasin 11-02-2004, 09:24 PM Hey Kevin:wavey: Long time . Great stuff. I been holding a plug for ya, gotta dig up yer address. Striperknight 11-02-2004, 09:45 PM They still sell it. Nice jig too! mrpogie 11-04-2004, 09:15 AM I use 308L stainless welding wire. I get it at a local welding supply house. It comes in 3 ft pieces. ...mrpogie Breezy 11-04-2004, 12:28 PM Love that wire, its stiff and a little springy but makes nice tail wraps capesams 11-07-2004, 12:31 PM no help from the [com.] pro's:huh: crashfromamesbury 11-08-2004, 09:31 PM courtesy of tattoo bob http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=60401 fishaholic18 11-10-2004, 09:28 AM http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=2&page=32012&category=1,43456,43407 Tagger 11-10-2004, 04:05 PM I just got one . works good .. thefishingfreak 11-11-2004, 08:26 PM someones home built (http://www.tackleunderground.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=1814) click on the pic to enlarge justplugit 11-11-2004, 09:57 PM Originally posted by Tagger I just got one . works good .. Round nose pliers for smaller loops and a bolt in a vise for larger loops. I looked into get a fancy dancy bender and it wasn't worth teh cost for me. Charlie capesams 11-12-2004, 12:54 PM yeh! i do the same thing...right now,,,but I'm one of those nut's that love's to make something reguardless of how much time it takes....when I could go out an buy one already made....I love a good challenge plus most of the stuff u buy today is cheap, meaning I'll always make it with better materials. Tagger 11-12-2004, 02:48 PM I do it old fasion too ,, Nothing wrong with trying a new way unless your an old fart like CS..:laughs: ;) capesams 11-12-2004, 03:56 PM plug god's will get u fa that one:devil: Biteme 11-12-2004, 04:35 PM Sammy, I read somewhere that you could take a couple of nails in a 2x4 and make a jig for those nose loops. Dremel the heads off, bigger nails for bigger loops, different patterns, crazy? Bob Thomas 11-12-2004, 04:53 PM I just got the metal one like Pogie as well. Only problem is that the instructions are in Japanese or Chinese :smash: Thank goodness for pogies "how to" bassmaster 11-28-2004, 09:59 PM i bend by hand and wrap the same ie, srcewdriver and plyers vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
