If you like casting to breaking fish the canal has been loaded with small fish the last two mornings at the turn to the east up on top. Must be thousands chasing small bait. The problem is they won't look at any thing, crippled herring, poppers, eelskins, jigs, nothing. They are chasing very small bait, peanut bunker. Just can't intice any of them to bite. You can hit them right in the head and they are not interested. If you like small fish get on your bike and go get them. Thought maybe there might be larger ones underneath, so tried down below with everything under the sun no luck. Start at the middle to the west end. P.M.

Agreed--try running a teaser ahead of your jig ;)

Small plastic, never fails, 4-1/2 or 5-1/2" split tail on jig heads, you won't get out too far but if they are pushing bait close it's a given. I'd bet my life a 4-1/2" smoke over holi-glitter on a 1/2oz head will catch every cast if they are close enough. If you need more weight, you can go heavier, but at some point you really need to upsize the plastic as well.

They were hitting this morning. Small tin. Lots of fish around, just no size. Myself and a few other guys had our pick of them for a while. Weren't as fussy as yesterday I guess. Wish I knew who people were, I am sure some SB guys must have been there, just a little awkward asking if they are online guys. Fish were still whacking away when I left. Fun morning. A local said the whole canal was hoppin.: "The Canal" isn't a spot burn is it?

I had luck in the spring getting bass that were keyed on small bait to hit shad darts with a pork rind trailer.
