I experimented this summer on a 4" polaris style popper with both hooks as the tail hook. I was trying to see whether one style over the other made a difference in hook ups. I didn't seem to find very much difference between them, except in the back of my hand or fingers when trying to unhook a fish.

There, the treble was much better... :-)

What are other peoples experience or preference?

i lost a big fish in july with a 5/0 siwash on a small pencil popper. i would have landed that fish with a 1/0 treble for sure. since then ive been doing trebles on the back except for on small dannys,

for those i like a single with bucktail.

Single with bucktail would be my choice for action and safety.Especially with blues around.Don't ask me how i know:(

My experience shows that 90% of big Bass are headhunters. They take the front treble and there is a reason. Baitfish hve sharp dorsal fins. Bass don't have teeth to chop the baitfish so if they grab it from the back, they can't swallow it because of the dorsal spines.

I make all my own swimmers, poppers and needles and always put a 5/0 or a 6/0 Siwash on the back. never lost a big bass because of the rear hook.

with most plugs (poopers, needelfish, and some swimmers) i leave or replace the front treble with annother treble and change the back to a single. i believe that i get better hookups with a single on the back, especially on poppers. the gami siwash are good so are the vmc, although this year i have a prefrence for the gami's.

the bass takes the belly hook on the plug and the siwash on the back of the plug buries deep in the bass .. Had some nasty hook ups this year ..
