View Full Version : What kind of wood???
KLMulder 11-08-2004, 06:13 PM Ok everyone, I will be setting everything up tomorrow in the shed, Hot pots, Lathe, Anvil, Forge. I will be stopping by a friends ( yes I have some thank you ) to pick up some scrap wood from his sign business. My question is what type of wood do you use for different plugs? I know he has teak, oak, cherry and maple, he told me he could fill my truck up if I wanted to ( he burns it in his fire place, hopefully I can put it to better use ). Any recommendations, other type of wood i should get? Also if you could post a pic so I can get an idea for the body type that would be great.
Thanks
KL
teak, cherry and maple for needlefish and alaskan yellow cedar for swimmers.

justplugit 11-08-2004, 08:35 PM BM recommended red cedar for small surfsters. :hihi: Proof was in the catching:D
Karl F 11-08-2004, 08:49 PM cherry and maple good for needles, oak good for warmth... I tried it once, was a nightmare, did make a needle with it, and it caught fish, but it is fugly.
red cedar good for making swimmers, at least, I've had good luck with it.

Make sure ya got either a quality respirator or very good ventilation(like outside) when you work with the Mahogany!
That stuff aint too good for the lungs!
At least thats what my brother tells me.
