Maybe the water on the ponds will get stiff before Christmas! Nothing beats Christmas Eve day ice fishing in a light snow to get you in the mood for the Holiday. Get off the ice, go home and cookies and oies are cooling off. Hmm, I can smell them now!:humpty:

I specialize in trout and salmon through the ice. Mostly Cape ponds and an occasional trip to Wallum Lake in Douglas. I am trying to put together a weekend in Lake George New York to ice fish. This would be Presidents Day in Feb. I have trolled there many times for Lakers and Landlocks and would love to set a set of five in front of the Sagamore Inn in Bolton's Landing.

I got three Salmon last year all on the same day at Cliff pond ( kept one ten pounder and gave it to Bassmaster on the way home). Peter's put out a couple too. Biggest trout were 3 and 4 pounders, surprisingly a lot of big Rainbows last year. Last springs stocking was the best we had in twenty years on the cape so with the fall drop and last spring's holdovers it should be great. I do some perch and bass jigging in Waquaqet, got a couple 14 inch plus yellow pwerch there last winter and some nice largemouths. Down Eastham way are some great Pickerel and smallmouth ponds.

What I like most of all is setting out the tilts and starting up the coleman stove and cooking! Venison sausage, eggs and homefries, Pheasant, venison and fresh trout for lunch! Ooh Boy that's living!:D

I am usually on the ice in Plymouth area, I have gotten some large down there..I gotta agree on the coleman stove, one of the best parts, aside from the race to the flag, thank god for dry wall screws :hihi: Maybe I will venture further down and give your neck of the woods a try this wintah. You have my mouth watering.....

I started fishing the "hard water" this past winter. Tried a number of different ponds, from Pembroke to Chelmsford.
If I hadn't done it for myself, I would never believe how much fun it can be when the fish are feeding and the flags are flying.
I have an 8 " hand auger, plenty of traps, and can't wait for some serious ice.

Your right FT! Justbecause the water is stiff on top there are fish underneath swimming and hungry. Some days are wicked slow but most days you are running constantly especially first sfae ice of the season. 4 inches of black ice and we go out. Some days you can't seem to get all the traps in the water because you set one in and look up and the one you set before is flying. I luv trout fishing when the air is still and you can see the whole tilt vibrating from the run off as the fish is taking line. :D

Up hear over the last two winters the ice has been 2 feet thick. I bring my snowmobiles out and buzz around waiting for flags.

Hey flap was up in Lake George this spring. Love to go back in Feb. Lots of places to stay and only about 2 1/2 hr. ride.
