View Full Version : Plug Building party?
Slipknot 10-10-2001, 06:54 PM Are any of you interested in getting together for a plug building party. You know, smoke some needlefish plugcigars, drink some pogie oil, all that fun stuff. Maybe we can epoxy bassmaster to the workbench. We can all try different stuff and techniques and learn from each other. So what do ya say? :):D
I could volunteer to have it at my place if it's central enough, we can just put my customers cabinets outside out of the way for one day:) I'll even clean up the shop. Figure after the fishing season is over OK? Maybe Bob can come and teach us about pouring rubba even. :)
bassmaster 10-10-2001, 10:20 PM Yeah But if ya poxy me, How ya gonna get rid of me????:D
TheSpecialist 10-10-2001, 10:21 PM That would be awsome, I could learn some and try it out before buying a lathe. I am game.
Tattoo 10-11-2001, 05:28 AM Our my house, but five guys would be the max.
Slip, how far are you from me?
Slipknot 10-11-2001, 07:11 AM I don't know , maybe 40 min.
JohnR 10-11-2001, 07:17 AM I'm in - either place - if there's room for someone who wants to lurk and see how it's done. I won't be doing my own stuff until I have my shed built - maybe next spring... Besides, I want to see the hazzard labels on the 'poxy that BM sniffs anyway ;)
GS - all you need is a hotplate for the rubba - right? You could sell jerkbait mountain field kits: some plastic, tweasers, and a little Pam & Spam...
Got Stripers 10-11-2001, 07:36 AM Fine by me, but I'll have to set up my hot plates outside, unless you have a good strong vent fan. Much to my wife's dismay, I set up on my kitchen stove and crank the fan to the max, which I replaced with the highest cfm exhaust fan I could find. Works pretty good, but it still stinks up the house for a short while. I can bring a few molds down, some plastic and pour up some various baits so people get the feel of how it's done.
Tattoo 10-11-2001, 08:36 AM Slip's Shack....40 minutes is nuttin'
BM, you coming?
nightfighter 10-11-2001, 09:00 AM Count me in. I'm a sucker for checking out others' workshops. Jealous mostly. Hopefully it'll be on a weekend when the twins are with my ex, as they have uaually found a way to find mischief in my old workshop. Hell, if the job market don't brighten soon, maybe I'll have to turn wood for a S-B.com online store!!!! JR my rates are very reasonable. JK
JohnR 10-11-2001, 09:16 AM Things should come around NF - besides - I don't want to sell squat... Just provide a loving home for all the plug ho's & misfits... "I want to be a Dentist"

Atlast true love..... John Honey, I wanna roll You in the sand Big boy. Will You marry me:D Do I make sexy Baby......
ooohhhh Behave.......
Canalratt1 10-11-2001, 11:13 AM I'd like to get in on this. Slip is cedar good for plugs, I have a good supply of blocks about 8"-3"-3"?
Slipknot 10-11-2001, 11:27 AM canalratt, cedar is fine. some of those needles are cedar.
GS, I have a paint room with 2 speeds of fan. One will change the air in the whole shop in no time(turbo) and the other is adequate for fumes. But no open flames in the paint room obviously.
Maybe we can set something up in Nov. on a Sat. or something.
Or even a Sunday and we can set up a TV for football in the background.
The 2nd or 3rd weekend maybe. If not then Dec.
bassmaster 10-11-2001, 11:38 AM NO FOOTBALL, Bunch of guys in tights wearing padding, and pattin each others Butts.........
Saltheart 10-11-2001, 12:49 PM I'd be interested. I would vote early December since some fish through Thanksgiving weekend. the biggest bluefish I ever got was caught a couple of days after Thanksgiving. They were 23 pounds AFTER gutting.
Canalratt1 10-11-2001, 12:58 PM Early December would work spend a few hours chasing deer then playing with wood. Sounds like a MANLY thing to do!
I'll like to attend this little event too if there's enough room at Slip's house. I've been thinking about building some plugs of my own and this seems like the perfect opportunity.
10x10 10-11-2001, 02:12 PM :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Slipknot 10-11-2001, 02:38 PM Why the long face 10x10?
You can come too, and show us your mastery.
BCY, we'll make room, but your not big.
Tattoo 10-11-2001, 03:22 PM Oh boy...this could be one heck of a get together...10X, BM Slip and me all in the same room...Yo have home owners insurance right? :D
10x10 10-11-2001, 05:21 PM It's too far.I will have to be enticed.I only respond to money, sex and large fish. Not neccesarily in that order.
Got Stripers 10-11-2001, 06:27 PM Well 10x10, seems BM is ready to roll in the sand with just about anyone, so maybe sex is the ticket :). Sounds good on the fan Bruce, what about BM and commercial molds for the get together. I've got a few which will be of interest to most, the 9" sluggo comes to mind :). Unfortunately the mold from Lure Craft was only a single cavity and time consuming. I'm not sure whether you want to actually get into making molds, maybe just go through the motions and the how to's for pouring baits. Can we use the wife's microwave? Very, very important if you want to speed up the process.
TheSpecialist 10-11-2001, 07:29 PM OH, boy did some one say 9" sluggo .
:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :D :D
nightfighter 10-11-2001, 09:09 PM Was at Homedepot this afternoon pricing out stock for a job tmw, and started working the tool dept manager over about the floor model lathe that was hidden behind another display and a solid coating of dust. Guaranteed that no one has even seen that lathe in months. Asked him to think about how much he could knock off the $279 list price...
bassmaster 10-11-2001, 09:29 PM Hay Got Stripers, got bondo;)
TheSpecialist 10-11-2001, 11:08 PM BM can you say anorexic.;)
JohnR 10-12-2001, 07:19 AM Fast chicks & Skinny bass, eh BM?
Fishpart 10-12-2001, 07:53 AM I'm very interested....
mrpogie 10-15-2001, 05:39 AM Since I'm new here I'm the last one in, but if there is room I'd be interested.
jenty 10-15-2001, 06:36 AM Whats up MrPogie? Welcome to the site, you make sure you stick around here, because you have alot to contribute!!! How about some more pics of your beautys???? :D
Slipknot 10-15-2001, 09:45 AM Mr. Pogie, it would be our pleasure to have you. I have plenty of compressed air and a nice spray room for you do show off your art of airbrushing, should be fun. Looks like we have about a dozen guys intrested. Fishpart, come on up and bring Saltheart.
Tattoo 10-15-2001, 02:11 PM Looks like we have enough interested guys to put on one heck of a show.
Early December look like an ideal time.....honey I'm going christmas shopping, be home in a few hours ...hehehehe
bassmaster 10-15-2001, 04:46 PM Great now we claw each others eyes out over mr pogies lures

Hard to believe this was more than 15 years ago
That first one was the best and each one was unique
Funny looking back where it all began

ProfessorM 02-12-2017, 08:37 AM Wish more of the guys that got their feet wet at these things would come back and share what they have learned. Seems over the years most of the guys who chose it as more than just a hobby have become so protective of their ideas and processes that they are not interested in sharing a little with people that are looking to get involved. Kind of disappointing to me but I may be in the minority of that view. It was fun yesterday with a small turn out plenty of room and great conversation but sad that I only saw maybe 3 people that are thinking of doing this for first time or looking for guidance and opinions. I know that most, I am guilty to a degree too, are looking on the cyber scene nowadays for their info and social life but it would sure be nice to see more get back to the old fashion technique of getting together. Maybe next year.

pbadad 02-12-2017, 09:00 AM Paul sorry I couldn't make it. I kept my mind working throughout the day not to get bummed out not going. On the side of the river we have a hand full building and one newbee. He is just starting from scratch and doing well. I try to advise as much as posssible. Everyone on this sight has given me plenty info to lessen the learning curve and I'm always there to help the next guy and especially the beginners.
vineyardblues 02-12-2017, 09:34 AM Sorry I missed a great time, Working weekends ><>---
I miss all you guys
ProfessorM 02-12-2017, 11:49 AM Yup you were missed. Next year sick day.

rphud 02-12-2017, 12:33 PM Great discussions yesterday. Interesting bits on those that "turned Pro" too. Given X-rays and bandsaws I don't know that there are many "secrets" out there, except for finishes maybe. We covered that topic as well yesterday. Even the spray can sample. Guess you had to be there.
Swimmer 02-17-2017, 09:45 AM Any time set on this get together? Any room left?

Frank, the post was started 10/10/01 ...It appears this is how plugfest was born. Paul was referring to plugfest being held last week at MoBeach ..
