View Full Version : 10 ft rod for pluging CANAL RAT 11-23-2004, 04:50 PM i am planing on geting a factory 10ft st croix 1-4oz would the butt of the rod get in the way when working a plug Bronko 11-23-2004, 05:04 PM Canal Rat....I was looking at the same rod. TunaCell 11-23-2004, 05:59 PM I have one in my surfcasting arsenal and I don't think I've had a problem with the butt getting in the way. spence 11-23-2004, 06:19 PM I think the technical response is...it depends :smash: -spence tlapinski 11-23-2004, 06:20 PM Originally posted by spence I think the technical response is...it depends :smash: -spence or, nothing a hacksaw can't fix! PNG 11-23-2004, 06:45 PM Unless you are set on St Croix wait & save some $$$. MikeCC is getting some Factory Breakaway's that should be a big bargain. PurpelNoon 11-24-2004, 03:39 PM Ive been using a 2 piece St. Croix 10' which was supposed to be my back up rod but I like it so much I've been using it with a Shimano Spheros 6000 and the combo is great! The model is a 2SRS 100M2. Its rated 3/4-4oz. It was built custom off a blank. I'm going to check to see if I can get a 1 piece made for next year. Its a nice light alternative to my Lami 120 1M. Only thing is the action is lousy for pencils. CANAL RAT 11-24-2004, 03:47 PM get a fiberglass rod for pencil poppers graphite is too stiff. i am going to get the st croxi 10ft rod just went down to a local tackle shop and looked at it the length of the butt is perfect PurpelNoon 11-24-2004, 03:55 PM I have an old 11' Garcia Fiberglass Spinning rod that was my father's. I hope to use it next year for pencils. Which St. Croix are you getting. What are the specs? I was just checking their blanks catalog and the funny thing is that they dont seem to make the same model I have in the 1 piece. Bummer! riverrat2 11-24-2004, 04:27 PM I dont know what one you were looking at the premier or the avid but I have the premier in conventional. I love it it can throw 4oz easy, I use it with 6500, no problems and you can't be the price. PurpelNoon 11-24-2004, 04:32 PM I do have two Avid rods, an 8' spinning and a 11' casting. Both are very stiff rods but they still work nice. The custom I have is different. I think it may have been the same balnk used for the older Ben Doerr System rods. Its got a satiny black finish. I looked at the current St. Croix blank catalog online and it had the2 piece blank I have but not the same rod in a 1 piece which kind of stinks.:( CANAL RAT 11-24-2004, 04:46 PM the premier 10ft 1-4oz 2 piece riverrat2 11-24-2004, 04:59 PM Thats what I got. I like it better than the avid because it doesnt have that bulky foam handle above the reel seat. kippy 11-24-2004, 05:14 PM Originally posted by PNG Unless you are set on St Croix wait & save some $$$.
