Nice color combo's.;) missing link 11-27-2004, 10:40 PM Sweet! if you dont mind me asking ... whats the weight on thoes? Tagger 11-28-2004, 07:20 AM Beautiful work Steve .., Whats the history of that plug .. are they still available .. ? capesams 11-28-2004, 09:02 AM txs. for the comp's. these weigh about 2.65 with hooks. Bruce Borge's who is maybe 69-70 years old now,,it was his dad that made these...I'd have to say somewhere in the early 1900's . so if ya find any reel one's call me:D redneck24 11-28-2004, 09:25 AM very nice, as usual :btu: Tagger 11-28-2004, 09:32 AM Thanks Steve .. love the history lesson on these old plugs .. :D fishaholic18 11-28-2004, 09:33 AM Nice work Steve.:btu: Mr. Sandman 11-28-2004, 09:36 AM They look real nice, and its just my observation, but unless you have a lot of weight in the tail, these *appear* like they might not cast that great. Have you actually cast these? MAC 11-28-2004, 09:37 AM no weight, but then again when these were used ya didn't have to cast real far BigFish 11-28-2004, 09:43 AM Not sure on the length of these Cutty's, but the Goo Goo Eyes knockoffs I made were very similar in design and shape and were tail weighted.....pretty sure they have to be with the balance of the weight on the Cutty's forward....they will need some tail weight. I could be wrong but you also need the tail weight to get the tail down in the water so they can "pop"!;) Tagger 11-28-2004, 09:53 AM Hey Steve ,, Do u have a real one .. what u use for a model ?... When I get something good I'd like to trade for copy..I'm into poppers now ..:) Karl F 11-28-2004, 09:55 AM An old timer I know who fished the old Chatham cut at Nauset back in the 50's and 60's said they had great success with the cutty's there as well, you wouldn't have had to cast far there either, get them in the current, and you coulda let them go however far out you wanted.. From what I gather, you kinda wanted these to sit flat in the water, and the rougher, or faster moving the water, the better. The Originals were cotterpinned, not thru wired, nose and belly hook, were even thru pinned together, so the cotter's might have given them the weight displacement, that was unique to them. If my mind id working OK this AM, I think somone, (AdamR, meybey?) posted some pics of the originals, either in the some plugs thread, or the one that I started about a year ago on cuttyhunk poppers.....originals were also mainly redheads/white body. MAC 11-28-2004, 09:59 AM I was looking at a real one last week and there isn't any weight. Must cast like poop. but like karl said get it out in current and let it float :btu: capesams 11-28-2004, 10:49 AM no lead in the one I borrowed. ....swivel's were pinned....color was white with a red head....looked like it was fished maybe twice if that.. alot of people are under the impression these days if it doesn't cast like a rocket it's got to b junk...not so....every plug has it's place to b fished in.....some plugs only need to b thrown 10' at most to get into the killing fields..... Tagger 11-28-2004, 11:39 AM Got pic of an Original ? Charleston 11-28-2004, 11:41 AM Tagger, check your e-mail tobias 11-28-2004, 02:04 PM I fondled a few yesterday at Adam's. Hopefully he'll post pics of the ones he has. capesams 11-28-2004, 02:15 PM that wood b nice...the only two colors I've see r red an white,,,,,white with blue ribbs on the back Biteme 11-28-2004, 03:09 PM :p copycat bassmaster 11-28-2004, 03:19 PM Originally posted by capesams alot of people are under the impression these days if it doesn't cast like a rocket it's got to b junk...not so....every plug has it's place to b fished in.....some plugs only need to b thrown 10' at most to get into the killing fields..... Ya got that chit right! note to others, if you need a popper to cast far ,make it correct in how it is to ride in the water..... another side note, the smallest creek chub popper is deadly in tight when the fish are pushing small pogies and sand ells on the shore. 1 color>>>>white>>>>>> capesams 11-28-2004, 04:07 PM :hee:  bassmaster 11-28-2004, 04:22 PM U like pink:D justplugit 11-28-2004, 04:28 PM Biteme, run, don't walk directly to the safe:D Karl F 11-28-2004, 08:13 PM Originally posted by bassmaster U like pink:D he likes red, even bettah! ;) Karl F 11-28-2004, 08:15 PM Bite Me.... that's a beauty, I'd take justplugit's advise on that one, or I could hold it for ya ;) vineyardblues 11-29-2004, 01:30 PM Very nice Steve, ><> VB Biteme 11-29-2004, 01:41 PM It won't be long before you can't tell the difference between a Capesammy and a original. :) Karl F 11-29-2004, 01:55 PM That will always be easy, the capesammy's are always nicer! Adam R 11-29-2004, 09:49 PM Nice plugs Steve! Here are a few originals. In addition to these colors pictured, I've had a solid gray, and a blue back/ white belly. I'd like to see how you finished it. Adam R 12-01-2004, 08:23 AM CS, the front pin holds a line tie swivel and the belly hook swivel. VB, I also had a gray one with a white belly...that makes 7. capesams 12-01-2004, 09:29 AM yes...I thinkthey also used a short wire to connect the swivels to that pin...either that or they made their own very long swivel. capesams 12-01-2004, 10:08 PM http://65.96.148.142/dsc01015.jpg BigFish 12-01-2004, 10:10 PM Looks great CS...that ones got a perty mouth!:D thefishingfreak 12-01-2004, 10:17 PM shave your knuckles steelhead 12-01-2004, 10:27 PM Thanks for the picture. What's the drill bit called that you use to get that cupped shape? I've been playing around with the face of a few poppers and am trying to decide which sequence gives me a better mouth. Cut the angle then the mouth vs cut the mouth then the angle. Doing the mouth, then the angle cut, I get a pretty interesting mouth shape, deep across the top and shallow across the bottom. Will be curious as to how it pops in the water comapred to the other one. Done several of both... capesams 12-01-2004, 10:27 PM my skin looks like an elephant's rump  capesams 12-01-2004, 10:30 PM the last one u said to do is the best for these popper's....bluestreaks had a deep mouth top an bottom. thefishingfreak 12-01-2004, 10:31 PM grumpy, do a swirl cutty:D capesams 12-01-2004, 11:11 PM :hee: capesams 12-05-2004, 10:02 AM http://65.96.148.142/dsc01029.jpg mother/daughter Karl F 12-05-2004, 10:45 AM    Charleston 12-05-2004, 10:57 AM Here are my first!! capesams 12-05-2004, 11:01 AM first one's:eek: WOW!...more please Charleston 12-05-2004, 11:05 AM Jig Man got me started in this incredible hobby this past summer.
