i just bought a abu 6500 and a shimano 7' lite/med rod this is my first bait caster thought i would try it out. i loaded it with some mono to practice and found out i need more practice but my question is i want to load the reel with power pro braid this is to be used mostly for schoolies but as we all know sometimes a bigger fish is mixed in , i fish from a boat (i know boat fish dont count) would you use 20# or 30#

I tried braided line for the first time last year.
What we learned:
The new braids are very strong, but the 12-15 lb tests is very hard to tie without cutting your hands.
The lines will 'screech through the gudes.
Make sure the rod is strong enough so that the line breaks first.
It casts great!

Good Fishing.

I use 65# power pro it casts ok and with my torium 20 I can fish for a lot of different type fish. IE: cod, striper. bluefish etc. Also it's easy to tie knots.
Just my .02:)
