View Full Version : new stuff
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 06:10 AM I have been given odds and ends of peoples dicarded turnings over the last couple years, Some have chunks dug out, some have the thru holes coming out the side etc., flaws that make the rejects in the eyes of the really good lure makers on this site. I found I have a knack for bringing them back to life by patience, re-drilling, Famowood filler and cutting down the really bad ones and making them into something else. Here are some of my salvaged, re-worked in process. This was a discarded Bassmaster form his waste basket.
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 06:11 AM This was a Flaptail body that went horribly wrong and found new life as a popper.
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 06:12 AM A reject, off center thru wire out the side Slipknot needle, now dead on, patched and ready for paint.
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 06:13 AM This was a Bassmaster discard now a Darter in it's rebirth.
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 06:14 AM Bottom view of the darter.
steelhead 12-13-2004, 08:01 AM Hey Salty, I'll take some of those rejects :-)
Karl F 12-13-2004, 08:05 AM "Dumpster Divers"
Gonna be the new name of yer plug company? ;)
Good Stuff Flap :kewl:
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 08:14 AM Hey Karl! I like that! "Dumpster Divers Plug Co. Inc." On second thought I will just keep makin' 'em for the fun and enjoyment, when it becomes a business it becomes a pain in the ass.:D
Ur gonna like the action on that top one.I been messin round with that style a while. there are several builders in NJ with the same style. It kills with the peanuts around.
Flaptail 12-13-2004, 08:52 AM Cool Tony. Thanks. That pic is just slightly larger than lifesize. Just a smidge.
BigFish 12-13-2004, 08:56 AM :eyes: Nice refurbs Flaptail....looking great! You should call that first one a "Smidge"....good name for it!:laughs:
reelecstasy 12-13-2004, 09:20 AM Nice work Flapail. I like doing projects out of just what ya got laying around.."one mans trash, is another mans treasure...." errr plug in this case...attaboy:kewl:
steelhead 12-13-2004, 09:57 AM With that nice smooth curve, will that guy run a bit shallower than the standard darter, with its little kerf lip?
Charleston 12-13-2004, 10:08 AM This old man here in Jersey would love to get a few rejects to rebuild! :laughs:
Flaptail 12-14-2004, 06:04 AM The popper is done (except for clear coat) Aluminum w/black head. I used a Cap'n Bill original hook hanger for the belly treble and a Cap'n Bill body weight as well. I kinda like the "Old School" look. I can't wait to toss this one onto the rocks at Pasque next May.
Christian 12-14-2004, 07:21 AM aww man that poppers awsome
BigFish 12-14-2004, 07:31 AM That looks real good Flap!
capesams 12-14-2004, 07:54 AM don't be disapointed if the finish doesn't stick to the silver finish..there's something in that color paint that dosen't let the clear stick.
Flaptail 12-14-2004, 08:00 AM Maybe a light spray coat of acrylic sealer before perhaps, then clear coat?:)
