He probably did it (who else would?, I know maybe OJ:rolleyes: ), although I don't buy how the prosecution built half the case on how he went fishing at the wrong spot, the wrong bait, and the wrong rod. As we all know people who don't know what they're doing going fishing is not a rare occurance.

I think he did it and as such he deserves the worst.

That being said I'll also take the opportunity to say I think the Death Penalty is seriously stupid as a form of punishment.

Spence, you're right about the death penalty. and as far as its role in this case, they should have given him life in a state penitentiary, the boys in there would have taken care of him faster than death row ever could.

I guess you have to be a little nuts to LIKE it as a form of punishment. An execution is the deliberate killing of a citizen.

I don't like it if there is the remotest possibility of an innocent person being wrongly punished.

Its deterrence value is questionable.

It is very expensive to administer vs. a life sentence.

But in the end, when it is meted out, is it "justice?"

I guess you can only earn the right to say so if you are a survivor of a victim who was murdered in a capital crime. God forbid.

The rest of us can rant and rave and wave our arms and cheer/boo.

I have court TV on right now, they just showed the people outside the courthouse cheering because of the verdict, that realy sickens me.

I used to be pro death penalty until the DNA tests in Illinois showed so many on death row were innocent.

- It costs more to execute than a life sentence
- There is zero evidence that shows it is a deterrence
- There is no ability to be really sure, like 99.9% sure someone is guilty. Recent DNA testing has proven this dramatically.

I'm pragmatic, it simply doesn't make sense.

death sentence more $$ than life? don't think so, 40 years in protective custody realy adds up.

It's not the cost of housing an inmate---it's the cost of all the litigation after a death sentence. $3-$6 million as opposed to less than a million to keep a guy locked up for 40 or so years.

Guys that get life, they get their one publicly paid-for appeal, and if they lose, that's that. They can keep on filing other motions but the have to do them on their own without assistance of counsel. Guys on death row get lawyers for every little writ they bring.

Take his ass out back and shoot him....Thats the cheap way and he ends up dead either way. I can totally see how people can be against the death penatly. But when i see guys like Peterson kill his wife and unborn child i want to kill him myself:af: Id rather he be dead than writing books from his cell and watching TV all day. Thats no punishment. Knowing that hes sitting in his cell waiting to die for what he did is good punishment. I dont want this guy living comfortable in his cell:af:

Too bad Scott is too much of a wussy to admit what he did. Would have enjoyed seeing him dumped into the bay.

In California, Peterson will live to be at least 80 before he is executed. With all the jury problems that went with this case, I expect it to get overturned, or dropped to life in prison.

I think California needs to either drop the death penalty or speed it up. 1 bullet cost what? $1.00? You can empty death row in San Quentin for a couple hundred bucks.

When I was in high school (1980) there was a guy killing women on the slopes of Mt Tamalpias. He was eventually caught and convicted of killing 18 or so people. Carpenter was his name and he has been awarded the death penalty 12 times. He is still alive.

I think special circumstances require special punishment. I don't think capital punishment is the answer. I think putting child abusers / killers in general population is cheaper, more effective and quicker.

Just get rid of him, he's pretty worthless as a human being as far as I'm concerned. If he's around, every couple of years the families are going to be picking up a paper or watching the news and his name is going to pop up and dredge up all of the foul memories.

Take a look at the whole Manson situation, almost on an annual basis one of his cult members comes up for parole and the families have to go and explain why they should not be granted parole and re-live the crime over and over again. If they just had gotten rid of them then the families could get some closure.

I know he's no Manson but any dad should look at him as the Worst of the Worst for what he did.
