View Full Version : Pedro To Mets
Canalman 12-13-2004, 09:28 PM Doesn't look good folks. I know this is a tough debate, some people feel ready for him to leave others don't. I'd like to have him back, but I'd feel a lot better if we picked up Pavano instead of the Yanks. Now we can just wait and hope for something to go right.

bud8fan 12-14-2004, 12:50 AM Dave,
Have no fear!! Let the Yanks have Pavano!
Word is that the Sox are going to do everything in their power to trade for Hudson(A's)
He is a proven AL pitcher where as Pavano could be another
Contreras!!!!! Boy I sure hope so!!! :laughs:
missing link 12-14-2004, 07:13 AM $$$$$$$$$$ talks and BS walks- let him go

No, what he'll be is another Javy Vazquez. A career .500 pitcher who pitched half of his games in a pitcher-friendly park, in front of small crowds, in the NL.
ThrowingTimber 12-14-2004, 09:03 AM So much for loyalty. Guess he remembered the mango tree :D
partsjay 12-14-2004, 10:00 AM See Ya Petey!!!
I am a huge Pedro fan, but if he want's to be an ass then let him. If one more year at less money than we are offering is what it takes then let him go. So much for loyalty and doing everything he could to stay....doesn't sound like he is trying to hard. He may have a good season for the Mets, but he wont have 4 of them. Lets face it, even as a Pedro supporter, I will still admit that he's not the same pitcher that he used to be. Not nearly as dominant or as available, cant pitch on short rest, cant go over 100 pitches, ect, ect.....fact of the matter is, he is not worth 4 years, 2 yes, 3 if you have to do that to keep him, but 4 NO WAY !!! So, I will watch him faulter in NY, and love every minute of it....wait till the All-Star break when he needs a few more days off, see how they handle it, or wait till he doesn't show up to team pictures, maybe the Mets will like that too....oh well, the Mets are like the Red Sox compost....they take all our has-beens.....Pedro will look good next to Mo Vaugn...this is all pay-back from '86. Good Luck Mets!!
I'll take Schilling, Wells, Wakefield, Arroyo....and you just know Theo will think of something. Keep the Faith Sox Fans !!!!!
Canalman 12-14-2004, 10:35 AM As for the Hudson deal... you know damn well we're gonna have to give something big up to get him. I would say it will probably be arroyo + a prospect or 2. That leaves a hole in the rotation that will likely be filled be John Halama  So Schill, Boomer, Hudson, Wake and Halama... not Bad but... Schill, Pedro, Boomer, Pavano, Wake great... or even Schill, Pedro, Boomer, Arroyo, Wake would be awesome. I do have a lot of faith in Theo, but what can I say.... I'm a Red Sox fan!

jugstah 12-14-2004, 02:16 PM Let Pedro go...
If it's all about the money, I'm glad the Red Sox didn't break the bank just for one frontline starting pitcher, and I didn't think it was going to be fair to pay Pedro more money than Schilling, who had an outstanding season.
Besides, I think a lot of us are tired of his Diva attitude, and his frequent bickering in the press about how some fans have disrespected him. Get over it, pedro. Not everyone has 100% support from their fans. Even Wade Boggs, as much loved as he was, had some fans who didn't like his chicken-eating ways!
I just hope we find another Gem in the rough, ala the old pavano for pedro trade way back then.
bud8fan 12-14-2004, 02:37 PM Rumor has it that one of the tendons in Pedro's shoulder is 90% torn.......................................
If the sox get Renteria there is talk that they will unload their prospect Ramirez with Arroyo and cash for Hudson. Which in my opinion is a no brainer! Hudson is a stud.
Clemente and Milton are still available also...............
reelecstasy 12-14-2004, 03:04 PM I just heard he refused the physical, because he knows he only has 10% left...but as far as him entertaining the idea of going, F HIM...:af: no loyalty, no pride.....Just show him the money:smash: oh well, f him:smokin:
partsjay 12-14-2004, 03:25 PM I agree Budfan, Hudson is a stud. I would give them guys up in a second if we could land him. Hope Pedro has fun pitching for a team that has NO CHANCE of winning....the guy gave up a chance to be on a contender for a little more money.....I'll tell you something, you can learn alot about someone, just watch how they act when it comes to money. Guy talks about respect, I lost alot of respect for him over the past few days. The Sox went above and beyond for the guy, but it's not enough.
jbuck 12-14-2004, 03:29 PM They have not signed just yet. I wonder what will happen if he dosen't pass the physcial.
Will that put him back out on the free agent market.
I like him but like he says it about RESEPCET not the money.
Well it is about the money, and in my eyes he lost the respect I had for him, by playing the Sox's against the rest of baseball for
what a little more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ .
J.
love_2_fish 12-14-2004, 07:44 PM If he fails the physical for the Mets, then his market will be extremely limited. The Sox offered him arbitration so that if he did sign with another team they would get a sandwich pick in the upcoming draft from the team that signs him. What this means is he could go to arbitration with the sox and based on his last years salary of 17.5 M he could win the arbitration and end up coming back for a year at around 19M!!! I hope he passes the physical because he'll still act like a spoiled kid.
Surfcastinglife 12-14-2004, 09:05 PM the red sox will no way give up ramirez for anybody not even hudson,he's out of the question. youkillis probably but not hanley ramirez

They offered him to the Mets for Cliff Floyd.
Saltheart 12-15-2004, 08:30 AM Good bye pedro. We can do better with the $54 million over the next 4 years than Pedro!.
I hope he retires rich , he was one of the best ever at his peak.
In The Surf 12-15-2004, 02:56 PM Gotta feel it's more than the respect and the $, remember were dealing with a diva with an ego. I think Schillings success bruised it and he felt like he was playing second fiddle here now.
Rappin Mikey 12-15-2004, 03:15 PM I heard he isn't allowing the Mets' to go ahead with the MRI. He might not be gone yet. I don't know if that is good news or bad news.

where'd ya hear that? the sox dont need another bat.......that would be a bonehead move if they even thought of that. and from all this shortstop of the future crap we get from the sox brass why would they trade him for a guy we had a couple years back??
partsjay 12-15-2004, 07:47 PM Well, I guess they won't be needing Ramirez, seeing how they signed Renteria, so that means he is trade bait. I say you do what it takes to get Hudson, this kid is proven, and he is young. We have to start getting young in the Pitching rotation, Schilling won't be here forever, and neither will Wakefield. You sign up a guy like Hudson, watch Arroyo, and see how he progresses over the next year, and you have a decent start for the future.
The Dad Fisherman 12-15-2004, 10:05 PM Ummm, Renteria is a Shortstop. So that doesn't make Manny expendable........yet
Mike P 12-15-2004, 10:24 PM It was reported in the papers here. The Sox would like to unload Manny's salary. The Mets weren't interested.
Skip N 12-16-2004, 01:08 AM Sox dont want to give up Manny....Its the $20Million bones he makes they want to give up! I doubt he'll go anywere. I love the Renteria signing but we still need pitching now that Petey stiffed us:smash:
partsjay 12-16-2004, 07:39 AM No , not Manny, Hanley Ramirez.
Surfcastinglife 12-16-2004, 11:19 AM yea hanley is trade bait now ;o manny i dont think he is after the year he had they must just not resign him but i think he'll play the rest of his contract out unless someone asks for him i dont think the sox are baiting him, but i doubt hanley stays with the sox now that renteria is here
Mike P 12-16-2004, 08:17 PM No, it wasn't Hanley offered to the Mets, according to the papers here. It was Manny. Nothing personal with Manny---it's just that he has 4 years left on a monster contract.
One of the few things the Mets DON'T need is a shortstop. They shelled out big bucks last year for Kaz Matsui who was a defensive bust. They moved Jose Reyes (great glove, improving at the plate) to 2nd base and put Matsui at short, but he couldn't find 1st base on his throws with a guide dog (throwing to Piazza the first half of the year probably didn't help). The word is that Kaz is moving to 2nd and Reyes is going back to SS.
Surfcastinglife 12-16-2004, 09:05 PM see i thought mike p meant hanley when they offered him to mets, that didnt make sense to me, as far as manny goes i didnt read that but i guess that seems feasible considering the wanting to unload manny's contract, i dont think the sox give up hanley unless its for the unit or hudson
bud8fan 12-17-2004, 03:08 AM So much for Hudson!
A's traded him to the Brave's today..............................
So that means that the Sox will have to settle for an quality
National League pitcher....................which could end up being
mediocre in the American League..........................
They are talking about Clemente and 24-26 million for 3yrs?
They can keep Lowe for that(and at least we know he can pitch in the A. L), but after the bashing he gave the Sox brass in the interview the other day
I am not sure they want him back?
Oh and BTW there is a three team trade in the making which would send the Big UNIT to the Yankee's!
Come on guys you dont actually think that Steinbrenner is gonna end up second fiddle in the free agent market again this year do you?
