View Full Version : Anything to remove masking tape residue?
BigFish 12-17-2004, 05:33 PM Working on a project for Christmas and I had to mask off something to paint and the masking tape left some residue....is there anything I can use that will not harm or remove the paint itself?
Thanks in advance.;)
afterhours 12-17-2004, 05:35 PM wd 40 or lighter fluid.
BigFish 12-17-2004, 05:36 PM You sure Afterhours? Don't want to screw this up now....almost done.:D
thefishingfreak 12-17-2004, 05:40 PM try soapy water.
or rubbin it off with your finger
what happened? leave the tape on too long?
afterhours 12-17-2004, 05:44 PM what is the tape residue on, enamel paint, laquer, etc....
rubbing alcohol- safe and it works.
BigFish 12-17-2004, 05:46 PM Rattlecan....won-t come off with finger....it was only on for a few hours, long enough for paint to dry!
BigFish 12-17-2004, 05:48 PM Whats that slim?
:laughs: ;)
thefishingfreak 12-17-2004, 05:49 PM try stickin more fresh tape over it and pulling it off.
like dabbing it with more sticky tape. might work
BigFish 12-17-2004, 05:50 PM Gimma a minute........
justplugit 12-17-2004, 06:00 PM Hey BF was it the blue tape?
BigFish 12-17-2004, 06:12 PM No....regular masking tape....it did not bother the Krylon paint just the other brand. All set...repainted affected area and removed tape immediately. Looks great and thanks for your help all. Tried the rubbing alcohol, no go so just repainted.;)
Gotta get me some of the blue tape though!;)
BigFish 12-17-2004, 06:20 PM Oh...sorry I did not hear you through all your hair!:laughs: ;) :D
ThrowingTimber 12-17-2004, 06:39 PM he was suggesting a product called goof off. I dont think he was calling you one BF
BigFish 12-17-2004, 06:42 PM Oh, thats funny!:laughs: See, not knowing that GOOF OFF is a product of some sort, you can sense my embarrasment.;)
Slipknot 12-17-2004, 08:40 PM Larry, next time you are in Beaver woodworking go to where the masking tapes are and buy some green 3M tape it is specifically for laquer, the residue won't be left behind on any surface. It is NOT cheap but well worth the extra you would pay for the cheap blue or green or other painters tape.
10 bucks says bigfish is making a candy cane plug :hihi:
Karl F 12-17-2004, 08:53 PM or other automotive store, automotive masking tape, plastic, comes as narrow as 1/8 for pinstripe.
