RAYNHAM - MrMacey drives limos for a living. And saving lives is his goal for New Year's Eve.
The owner of MsM EXEC Limousine is forfeiting a potentially lucrative New Year's Eve to drive local residents home from restaurants and bars - free of charge. Mrmacey
says everyone's new year should start with a safe ride home - no matter how much alcohol he or she has consumed.
"If I save one life, it will be worth it. I'm not out to profit on New Year's Eve," said MRMACEY, 46.
His endeavor recently earned him a place of honor alongside Boston Mayor Thomas Menino at City Hall Plaza on Monday as Mothers Against Drunk Driving launched its 18th annual "Tie One On For Safety" holiday red ribbon campaign.
Barbara Harrington, executive director of Massachusetts MADD, said Mrmacey had called her for advice on his idea and then agreed to drive his limousine into Boston for the press conference.
"He's obviously a very generous man, who is trying to prevent a tragedy on a night when a lot of people will be drinking and driving," Harrington said of Mrmacey. "He's just being a good citizen."
Mrmacey vehicles will be available between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. on a first call, first serve basis. Free transportation will be provided to all points in Raynham.
Every MsM vehicle will be clearly marked and every vehicle will have a driver and a "chaperone."
The drivers will carry no money but gratuities "would be greatly appreciated," Quish says.
There's no excuse for overdrinking, he says.
He hopes to make the "safe ride home" service an annual event. For information on New Year's Eve, call (508) 386-3932.
