I recently picked up a product called Kilz, it's both a primer and a sealer. Has anyone here ever used it on plugs?, and if so is it any good?

Slipknot 12-20-2004, 01:34 PM crap stay away from that kind of primer use a good oil based primer TunaCell 12-20-2004, 01:42 PM Yes sir Slipknot 12-20-2004, 01:49 PM I'm not old enough to be called sir:laughs: Motor Fish 12-20-2004, 02:10 PM Up until now, I've used Kilz as a primer. Only because I've had it laying around the house. Slip (or anyone), what did you have in mind as a good oil based primer? And if I use an oil based primer, is Createx paint still okay? FlukinUki 12-20-2004, 02:35 PM Theres no problem putting a water based paint on an oil based primer as long as the primer is dry. Slipknot 12-20-2004, 03:37 PM Yes, let it dry for a while in a heated space, another words don't let it sit in 50 degree basement temps for a few days and expect it to be dry enough. I wait a week at 70. Ben. Moore is good, any quality paint will do California etc. Tagger 12-20-2004, 05:16 PM Originally posted by Slipknot I'm not old enough to be called sir:laughs: Yes u r Sir ... no problem with Zinnser here ,,. Water Treater 12-21-2004, 04:59 PM Zinnser 123 primer is available in oil and water based varieties. I've used both types successfully on plugs and around the house. I've put oil based enamel paint over the water based Zinnser 123 primer and it seems to hold up very well on plugs. I wouldn't use KILZ or any water based household paint on plugs. A good marine oil-based primer is Interlux # 279 white undercoat , now called Interlux Pre-Kote. Good stuff. I use it on my wooden boat . It's available from Jamestown Distributors in Rhode Island. They are now on line. Bill TunaCell 12-21-2004, 05:51 PM Thanks for the info Water Treater. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
