Is there a reason for the price of this Penn or are some people just complete moron's?

I'm not an expert, nor am I completely sure. But compared to the the few I've seen that one is in immaculate condition. They're well built reels too, I know Jamestown locals who still fish with theirs.

I still see no reason that it should be selling for that much.

Just goes to show you that some people have money to burn!!

Some people collect to preserve.

Russ it is quite common to see the old green 706s' in mint condition sell for that price. Got to remember not many left like that conditionwise. Try finding an old Black 705 or 707, same thing moneywise.

I guess your right! Its just funny when at times you can get one in fairly nice shape for $50-$75 .


After all collectors are a different breed! I have seen diecast collectors pay in excess of $300 for a 1/64 scale earnhardt piece.

If you think the line roller on a black 706Z is noisy, you ain't heard nuttin' until you hear the one on the greenie.

Mint, in the original box, complete with a vintage manual? Yeah, some people will pay 300-400 clams for one.

Its almost 2005....10 years from now.... bigger bucks :cool:

The greenie had a %$%$%$%$ing in the line roller.now we have smooth as silk bearings.:D I've gotten nice sounds out of both.

Don't mean to hijack you Russ but when I was in Daytona the last time('03) I was at the big flea market there and they
Earnhart pieces for twice that much!It is amazing what collectors will pay.

my 706 greenie i put on eBay last year sold for $275 and it wasn't in that good of shape. greenies are collectables. mint in box 704's have sold in the $500 class recently.

I worked for the past 5yrs part time at a nascar collectibles shop. And I will tell you its all about "a fool and his money"

Reason I say this is I have quite the collection myself and I have never paid more than $90 for any of my diecast. That including pieces that others have paid as high as $400 for.

Its like any collectible! Some people are just too impatient to wait for a good deal so they pay way more than something is worth!
There are only a handful of diecast out there that are actually worth the kind of money your talking about!
