Can anyone confirm for me if the Lamiglas GSB 120 2L and GSB 120 2M blanks are the same blanks used for the Lami factory XS 10 MS and XS 10 MHS?
Thanks

Thanks JoeP 12-25-2004, 10:12 PM I did some more research and confirmed that this is true, the Lamiglas GSB 120 2L and GSB 120 2M blanks are the same blanks used for the Lami factory XS 10 MS and XS 10 MHS? I have a comparison question. Has anyone used & compared the Lami XS 10 MS and the St. Croix Ben Doerr SS100M2 -- OR -- the Lami GSB 120 2L and the St. Croix Ben Doerr SS100M2? If so, are the those model Lami's similar in casting weight range, strength, flex, etc. to the SS100M2? I know they kind of are in the specs on paper, but I was wondering if they actually act the same. Thanks NIB 12-26-2004, 07:23 AM ben doer is no longer with st.croix. the 2 in ur prefix for lami blanks means 2 pc. the Ben doer is a nice blank it has a lighter tip then the lami which will help on the lighter end.If i had to own a St.croix.it would probabaly be the rod.not a fan of there stuff otherwise. Except for some e glass rods i built.what are ur intentions for these blanks. NIB 12-26-2004, 07:35 AM XS 101 ms was built on a gsb 120 1L no longer made in a production rod they will make it for a dealer but i think they gotta buy like ten or something. a nice lite pluggin rod my guess is they got to many back from guys foldin em thrown bait. the XS 101 MHS is built on a GSB 120 1M.An is a workhorse rod for many serious surfcasters on the east coast. they also make a GSB 120 1 MH which is like a broomstick good canal jiggin rod or for breakin the neck on livelined bunker fish. JoeP 12-26-2004, 11:02 AM Thanks NIB- I asked because I own the St. Croix Ben Doerr SS100M2 (with 6" cut off the butt), and I like the rod but its a bit "spongy". I was looking at the Lamiglas XS10MS as a replacement but I'm not sure if it is too similar to the Ben Doerr I have. I may look at the new St. Croix Avid series 10 foot rod also. I have the 9 foot Avid rod and its great. Thanks, Joe Nebe 12-26-2004, 11:37 AM Just so you know... if you dont like spongy, dont get a GSB 1201M... PurpelNoon 12-26-2004, 12:14 PM I have the Lami 1201M and the St. Croix 100m2 from a blank. Its the equivalent to the Premier series of production rods. The St. Croix has a thicker diameter butt and whippier tip. I really like the St. Croix, I just wish I could get that model in a 1 poiece but it is not made. The only 10' they make is equivalent to the Avid Series and it is too stiff for me for a surf rod. JoeP 12-26-2004, 10:46 PM Eben- Is the "sponginess" of your GSB the progressive taper you were telling me about? I guess I just like the feel of the St. Croix Avid-type tapers that are stiffer than those that flex way down near the reel seat. Even the Arra 1083 I have is more of a tip-flex taper. So I guess what you're all kindof saying is that the XS10MS/GSB1202L has the taper that flexes down towards the reel seat like my Ben Doerr. Nebe 12-26-2004, 11:15 PM yes.. if you grab the tip of a 12o1m it will bend and bend and bend.. not as much as an all glass rod but it bends.... have you tried a 1084 and compared it to your 1083?? i think you'd be very surprised in the great difference in flex- I started off with a 1083 thinking it would be an awesome bomber rod, which it was, but i could never land a big fish in half of the places i fish at... Check out a 1205, i think you'll like that model. JoeP 12-27-2004, 10:25 AM I've actually been reading about the 1205 also. I'll take a look at it. I read that Lami will produce a factory Arra 1205 next year some time. I guess I'll wait. Thanks 28inches 12-27-2004, 07:32 PM NIB: when did Lami stop making the XS101MS? Shipping costs for rods and blanks longer than 108" went thru the ceiling. I've seen some leftover one piece factory rods here and there. 28inches 12-28-2004, 06:06 AM Mike- they still have the XS101MS listed on their site. And if what NIB says is true about an XS101MHS, that would also be a one-piece rod longer than 108". But there is no XS101MHS on their site. 28inches 12-28-2004, 12:56 PM . Mike P 12-28-2004, 01:05 PM NIB stated above that Lami will still ship the one piece factory 10' but dealers have to commit to a certain minimum number special order. I would guess that's probably why they're still on the website. I would assume that smaller dealers don't want to make a four-figure outlay on a special order that they may be stuck with for several seasons. They used to make an XS 101 MC and an XS 101 MHS. It's been a few years since they eliminated the light convench and the medium spinner. NIB 12-28-2004, 01:29 PM Originally posted by 28inches Mike- they still have the XS101MS listed on their site. The rod the no longer make in production was built on the 1L blank.like i said I think it had to do with returns as its a very lite pluggin blank more than size limitations.they still make the rod built on the 1M its a XS101MS.then there is a GSB 122 1MH its 2 inches longer an like a broomstick It has a size 16 tip. very similar in action to a Allstar 1209 but not as lite.I bet they made it 2 inches longer to keep the confusion factor down. They also make a GSB 136 1MH thats longer an it has a size 20 tip.thats alot of rod.I seen production rods built on the GSB 132 1M blanks u gotta buy a bunch an ship em with a big order an they will do it for ya otherwise its not worth it with the shipping being very expensive.I'm pretty sure they will do that with any of thier blanks. Its how they make a living. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
