View Full Version : Official - Who and WTH to Bring, 3rd Annual S-B.com Too Friekin Cold to Fish Nite

Here is the whooze coming and what to bring thread for the THIRD Annual “Striped-Bass.com Too Friekin’ Cold to Fish Nite” slated for Saturday Night February 26th. For those that don't know, the Too Friekin Cold to Fish Nite is an awesome party / fundraiser that keeps the site open and free. We did it last year and it was a true blast by all that participated. It also kept the site up and running with no annoying popup ads and :spam: . Door tickets and Raffle table proceeds from that on night go a LONG way to run the site for most of a year (thanks again for that :btu: ). It's also a great way to reduce the cabin fever that has a death grip on many that will come late winter.

What we do: we have a hall in Fairhaven, Ma already reserved (Thanks Jim for reserving the date, I got the deposit in!) that is across the street from a Holiday Inn (highly recommended - not for crature comforts but for a short stumble to serenades of Peanut Butter Toes by R.M. - you had to be there I guess). We have edged around 100 people each year and can probably sneak another 20 or so (still below the capacity for the hall which I think is 177 or something when dining). And of course, do to Massachucettes General Law something or other, smoking will take place outside.

What we do is try to get people to bring a dinner dish, desert, an appetizer, or condiments / paper & plastic (forks & knives). Scuttlebutt right now has the workings of a possible food contest too.

We set up a buffet style and let people, well, buffet...

For rooms at the Holiday Inn - I will contact them this week and see if there is a again a package discount rate for rooms.

The Bar is adjacent to the hall so drinks are available if anyone wants to imbibe.

Entertainment is being worked on as we speak and I hope to have details on this soon. I am also open to (honest) suggestions for the entertainment.

We will have a raffle table - hopefully as good or better than last year (and that was awesome!)

I open this to the floor - should tickets will be like the last two years, $10 single or per legit couple (significant others, not fishin' buddies ) ?

I also want to come up with an annual prize / award of some sort for a worty site MEMBER - it can be goofy, funny, or serious - I am open to suggestions - do not mention any names (victims) at this time. Once we decide what kind of award, we will have a SILENT poll.

So whose going and what will you bring? Suggestions? Comments?

1) Me & the Bride a/k/a TheBetterHalf - will bring Cuttyhunk Terryaki Shepards Pie & Chicken Pot Pie

Smokey , David and I will be there. Like last year we will make an awesome 100 person garden salad. Dressing included!

Like last year I will also donate a rod for the raffle table and the rod for the biggest canal fish of 2004.

This is , no doubt , the highlite of the off season. All the fishing shows are nice and I hope to make them all but the TFCTFN is the best gathering of the best fisherman you will see in you lifetime. I go to see my friends. Some come to meet new friends. Some come cause they are drunken sots and they will feel comfortable in a room with more like themselves!!!!! :)

Whatever your own reasons , you want to be there Saturday , Feb 26 .

I'll swear its a good thing we always go in a truck cause all the raffle stuff you win would just filll up a normal car!! :)

I promise that anyone who asks me even the most complicated questions about fishing the canal will will walk away smilin
and scratching their heads wondering WTF is he talking about !!??!! :)

Not to oversell the event but this is the best time you'll have at a fishing related event all winter long.

John,

I think you sghould convene a super secret committee of the boards regulars and create a few annual awards. Some Ideas...

1...Rookie of the Year Award...for the loudest member that came in like gangbusters, pissed everyone off and now is just another one of the bunch.

2...I need a Life...this is the mike hog or net hog asward given to someone who just has to post on every little damn thing...related or not

3...Closest to getting Banned Award....for the member that will centralize this winter's insanity

let your imagination run....

Both I and the little woman will be in attendance for the first time.

I do not think I have seen it on the list yet. I will bring plastic forks, knives, and spoons. I will also grab a stack of plates and napkins. Guess it is a run over to BJ's Wholesale on the way down.

This next statement probably won't be too popular. But $10 a couple is one inexpensive night out. If money is short keeping this site open JohnR, I wouldn't have a problem with a bump on the ticket prices. If not, I will purchase something for the raffle table. This is a great site, and a long winter - I want the lights left on.

That's OK - Buy more raffle tickets :hee:

I don't want it to be expensive, I just want it to be a good time. The TCTFN generates half of the funds to keep the site going well. But I don't want it to be expensive (not that I'd mind making more :hihi: ). But we keep the ticket for significant others so we can prove (or disprove) that we are not (or just are) a bunch of lunatics

John,

It was a pleasure speaking to you yesterday. As I stated on the phone I am going to purchase a ticket and try my very best to make it to the affair. My only problem is a schedule conflict with having a booth at the "BIG E" in Springfield the same weekend. The show ends at 8:00PM on Saturday but maybe I will shut down around 5:00 and make the two hour trek down to Fairhaven. With no stove in my booth and not very creative with a microwave I will provide paper plates, napkins and drink cups. I will get these in your hand prior to the date in case of S N O W!!

This is a great chance to meet more members here and tell some lies about the big one we landed and the one that got away, which none of us ever do. I also would like to donate two seats on one of our "OPEN BOAT CHARTERS" aboard RELENTLESS for a day of cod fishing on Stellwagen Bank. It is the least I can do. If Raider Ron wins, redraw the ticket. :D

Well, time to go check on the boat (another cancelled trip due to weather), work out, (need to de-balast) and head down to the Providence Boat Show. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Respectfully,

OK - my wife got a call back from the Holiday Inn - Regular rate is 85 or so per night and the S-B rate would be 65 per night if we get more than 10 rooms (hey, an extra twenty for the raffle table :hihi: or some expensive wine for your missus :laughs: )...

I'm going to start a holiday in room thread - please reply to the thread if you will register a room for that night...

Thanks,

John

I can bring a big cooler if it is needed.

This is my first year, so I am a little confused. Does the hall allow us to bring our own beverages? I thought there was a bar where we bought this stuff.

I found my problem booking the room.

I was calling the 866 # for Holiday Inn corporate. They do not see the booking for Striped-bass or stripped-bass.

you do have to call the hotel directly. But I got my room and cannot wait to get there.

Someone can probably answer this for me... I'm bringing different types of prepared venison... Is there a place to cook it there or should I cook it at home and just re-heat it there? Is there a kitchen or anything like that?

Hey,
If anybody reads this last minute...I could use a few extra serving spoons for the party. Any kind of big kitchen spoon or spatula would help.
I bring like 30 every year and seem to go home with half of them, so my collection is dwindling.
