swam the best?

Finally got these to a point where I could test for swimability.

I put the appropriate lead next to each plug so you could see how its weighted also wrote on the plug the lip used. Hook size listed too.

4 3/4" long 1.5oz-ish

What do you think, which one swam the best/worst?

i will say middle swam best. :confused:

Depends on the action you are after ;) I'm guessing the one with the blade on the back swam worst. Blade would likely kill the action. Any reason for the tail weights? They tend to kill the action of a swimmer type plug.

i'd say bottom one swims best?
middle ones lip looks to big for short plug no tailhook so i think you gave up on that one.
top ones loop is bent way down , looks like needs too much tuning?
but i'm a plug dork, just guessing?

this is easy.. the one in the middle swam the best because there is no tailhook to slow the wiggle. I bet the top one looked teh sexiest though with the bucktail swishng behind the plug.

I can see the reason to use tail weight, but that seems like a good hunk of lead Chris. Never saw a flaptail danny before.

I'm also going to stick with the middle one because it has a danny lip, which helps the plug wiggle more than a lefty lip with those tailweights.. :huh:

#2 best-- med size belly weight centerd and enough to counter balance tail weight.
#3 worst--center belly weight to light to counter tail,plus like Jigman said.:)

And the answer is the TOP one.

Middle the worst and bottom OK.

While I do not presume to have all the answers I can "guess"as to why.

One thing I did not do was enough testing on them (hook placement/size etc) so maybe all could have ended up swimming.

Top one - I think swam good cause of the big belly weight/siwash hook. Belly weight reduced roll. Tail hook seems to add drag. Good lip lefty 1.

Middle - Poor. Way to much roll. Wrong lip, to big no tail drag, not enough belly weight.

Bottom - OK. Could have benefitted from a bigger belly weight.

Changing the body shape, using a fair amount of stern/belly lead will give you a bigger "S" swim.

All belly weights are behind the treble.

As far as flap dannies try opposing blades on the stern & different sizes. They rattle. I would do this only if you have 2 trebles or if it is a small plug like the ones shown.

Oh yah the type of wood used plays a huge part so experiment!

Great post! I've been trying to get that "S" action for a while, but always assumed the tail weight would kill the action. Once again, one of my assumptions was wrong.

Just curious, how heavy are the tail weights?
