I just had a major disaster involving my swap plugs..i clearcoated all of them a few nights ago and when I went to take the wire that i use to hang them, just about every wire was sticking to the nose of my darter. So, when i went to remove th wire, it ripped the epoxy and pulled the paint up with it. I'm feeling pretty bummed about this, as i put lots of love into these and i dont feel comfortable sending out a damaged plug to anyone.

It looks like I have 2 options- ask for more time, (probably a week and a half)

or I can bow out..... I dont want to bow out, but i dont want to hold up the process.

13 plugs is alot to screw up, but i am going to patch them and fish them this season, so its not a total loss.

i could also use another week, im stuck at school and cant put the final clear coat on till friday

Look, I want an EBEN PLUG. make them , fix them, do what you gotta do. The fish aren't here yet anyway. Maybe try putting the wire in the plug before you epoxy. You don't want to miss out on this swap guys.

Slip, the wire that stuck was a 's' hook that I made to slide through my nose loop so I can hang them the bend in the wire touched the sides of the plugs and got stuck there as the plugs clearcoat hardened..... :smash:

next time round I will hang them from the tail.

Not good. I must admit to having a full plate of late and I don't even have hem in sealer yet.....was planning on sealing Monday.....plugs won't be done for another 2 weeks at my pace. Bigfish, if you use minwax wood hardner, you can paint them the next day if you leave them in a well ventilated warm area.. I actually paint my plugs the same day that i seal them, but I have a unique way of cheating :D

You're right, next time I'll check a month in advance, to be honest, I was so busy that I wasn't even thinking about those swap plugs a month ago :spin:, I turned mine in January and I put the last lip on the last plug after the original deadline myself (although I would have done it sooner but extensions make me lazy :laughs: ) So those of you who still have things to do to finish, please be dilligent and finish them up by Larrys date of 4/23/05, much after that and the fishing will be in high gear and you won't want to be building plugs. :usd: Should I post sign ups for next years swap now??? :laughs: deadline 4/1/06 :eek: :scream:

well heres the deal.. I made enough for everyone plus one for me. I went out this afternoon for some stalking and saw some boils... I cast, the swap plug was wiggleing away like a champ on top when it was totally inhaled by a bass in the low 20 pound range.. Everything was fine until the plug foulhooked on its gill plate, then the leader snapped as the bass rolled on me. :smash: Lessons learned-
1. make more plugs than i think i need.
2. use 40# leader in the spring even though you think the fish will be small( i was using 15 # flouro)

So, after this loss, i dont have any left for me unless I keep NIB's plug....

Sorry :( but, i do strongly urge you guys fish these, or least take them for a test swim... they're pissa :hihi:
