View Full Version : night fishing north of cape cod
blue oyster 01-08-2005, 05:44 PM my goal this year is to catch a striper at night . but i hear very little talk of night fishing on the south shore of mass. other than seeing a chunker now and then i see very little night fishing. is there anyone out there who fishes quincy/ hull area at night with any results . i tried once last year slinging eels in a spot that almost always holds fish in the daytime with not even a pickup , any thoughts
Raider Ronnie 01-08-2005, 05:50 PM Lots of good spots,
From a boat!!!;)
BigFish 01-08-2005, 06:32 PM No....the night fishing in these parts really stinks....especially at night!:laughs: ;)
The fishing is only good when the fish are there so give it a try!:D
Slingah 01-08-2005, 06:37 PM plenty of spots Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull, and all the way to the Cape miles and miles of shoreline...picka spot and start a slingin':D
BigBo 01-08-2005, 06:58 PM blue oyster; PM's only lest I be chastized by my fellow South Shore fishermen for burning the few available spots. Seriously, PM me and I'll try to help you out.;)
BigFish 01-08-2005, 07:00 PM From where I live, I can hit BigBo's house with the monitor...;)...should I need to chastise him for burning our spots in the open!:bsod:

blue oyster 01-08-2005, 08:21 PM thanks bigbo for the offer, i am not fishing for spots (don't want larry to get mad ) i am more trying to get a feel on what methods are used up here compared to what i read about on the cape . i dont chunk and i wont use eels this year so would i use surface swimmers , bombers , mambos ?
macojoe 01-08-2005, 08:40 PM There are plenty of spots to night fish with great results!!!
That said,
BE SAFE!! Make sure all your light are working!!
And leave them on!! Make sure you have a HORN and that it works!!
Beware of your surroundings at all times!!
Make sure the deck is clear and lit!! You don't want to be tripping over stuff.
It is common practice for boats to shut their rear light off so not to scare the fish! Don't do it!!
On July 12, 2002 I was fishing with a good friend on his boat, we got are 40 keepers!!
On July 14, 2002 the same friend wanted me to go with him and I could not. He went alone in his boat that night.
I got a call at 5 am that morning to say that his boat was rammed and it rolled over. He was killed instantly when the bow of the on coming boat crushed his chest! at about 3 am.
All this because he shut off his running lights so not to scare the fish!!
This ruined plenty of lives!! A mother & Father lost a son, a brother & sister lost a brother, a wife lost a Husband, and friends lost a great friend!
Not to mention the poor guy who hit him! Even though it was not his fault, he will have to live with the fact that someone died, and weather or not, if he just watched better or slowed down, or stayed home, that things might had been different??
I am sorry guys for this long post!! But feel that this is something we all need to know! SAFETY FIRST!!
I will return to the Dark water this summer for the first time since that day. But not before I make sure everything is right with the boat! And you can be sure my eyes will never leave the water looking for all the boats around me!!
Be Safe!
