The Weather Channel is saying a 'conservative' 12-18 inches, with 2 feet not out of the question and 50 MPH winds...:hs:...this oughta be interesting...

Guess I'll have to hit the liquor store early - my b-day is Sunday and I don't want to be caught short :buds:

Blizzard warning in effect from 5 pm this afternoon to 6 pm est sunday,
The NWS in taunton ma has issued a blizzard warning.
Snow will begin across western rhode island and southern worcester county between 2 and 4 pm this afternoon, and will quickly overspread the remainder of rhode island and eastern massachusetts by nightfall.
The height of the storm will occur tonight through most of Sunday morning, especially right along the coast and on cape cod and the islands. Snow will likely fall at the rate of 3 inches per hour for several hours overnight. Strong northeast winds will increase to over 35 mph for a time tonight and early Sunday, with gusts close to 50 mph. This will cause blowing and drifting snow with whiteout conditions at times.
The snow will taper off to snow showers across inland areas Sunday morning, pushing to the coast by midday Sunday. However, lighter snow will continue along the coast and on cape cod and the islands through a good portion of Sunday.
Total accumulations will be on the order of 20 to 30 inches, with the highest amounts along the immediate massachusetts coast as well as on cape cod and the islands. Additional snowfall is possible to continue on the cape and islands into Sunday night.
A blizzard warning is issued when sustained wind speeds or frequent gusts of over 35 mph are expected with considerable falling and/or blowing and drifting snow. Visibilities will become poor, with whiteout conditions at times. Those venturing outdoors may become lost or disoriented, so persons in the warning area are advised to stay indoors.

It is a real bithc shoveling and snow blowing (Not Plowing) over 250' of driveway no matter what kind of snow we get. What really sucks is when you are done shoveling and the road clears you have to drive to the marina and shovel that white powder off the boat. Even with the space heater in the engine room, I am sure the salt water side of the engine room is frozen so no warming up the engine. All seacocks are shut and I just hope the head does not decide to explode or worst yet the batteries. I am starting to hate winter and when I retire from the Coast Guard it will be time to find a nice winter port either Moorehead City, NC chasing bluefin tuna or all the way down south in the Keys.

Time to head to the snowblower store and pick up those extra shear pins, new chains, oil and gas. I guess I should think about the batteries and flashlights also and check on the boat. Finally we can't forget the food for the big game when the PATS come on the tube. If we loose electricity for the game tomorrow I am going to drive someplace, somewhere where there is a genset keeping the house warm and a TV. It may be a hotel with a generator but I can not miss the game where the AFC Championship trophy will be handed to Bill and Bob.

Good Luck Everyone,

Dave

Be careful not to over excert yourselves shoveling snow tomorrow too. My roommates pops had a heart attack shoveling snow a couple days ago. He was only 44 too.

Ron,

Why can't you just be happy ;) for your co-workers, fishing buddies and friends whose team is in the AFC Championship game. Just because your team is out, you are always so negative towards the PATS. It is sad, maybe when you make all the big $$$ plowing, someone here can recommend a good therapist or better yet a Realtor in the Oakland area who will support you.

So glad I was able to get in yesterday from a week in Aruba, not. I picked the wrong week again. Spent the whole day yesterday shoveling with a sunburn. We had better not loose power for the Pats game. P.M.

I got safe ice. Perfect four to 6 inches and now this storm. Arghh!! I am going back out now till dark and jig up a couple more Cpe Cod Rainbows. Saw a Bald Eagle to day over a mid cape pond it was 50 feet over us. Watched it for 5 minutes and I don't think it flapped it's wings more than twice, a master of the air.:D Hey VB, LET'S GET TOGETHER FOR A FEW MORE COLD ONES AGAIN SOME TIME.

78, I measured 42" in my backyard in Pawtucket.

Street was buried for a week. Sitting in my living room, I was looking out at the ankles of people walking down the street on top of the packed snow. Most idiotic thing I did---dug out the hydrant in front of the house---no fire truck could have made it down the street until they dug it out.

And they did dig it out, with front end loaders---there was just too much to plow.

I've always wondered why everyone has to get milk and bread....
If I am stranded in a storm for days I would rather subsist on Cheez-its, beef jerky, and Diet Coke...

Dave,

I agree with this weather!! I spent last weekend in the Keys for the first time ever. It was cloudy, rainy, chilly (mid 60s) and windy (30mph).......I really thought it was terrrible.....then we flew home on Tluesday and the pilot told us it was 9 degrees at Logan......and look what's happening now..........maybe 60 degree weather in the Keys doesn't look so bad!!

Hey Crafty Happy Birthday young fella:) !!!! I never realized it, but our birthdays are 3 days apart ( mine being after yours , oh wise one:buds: ) Have Iron Mike come by and plow you out before he goes down the street and gets plowed himself :laugha: If he's lucky he will be tired from plowing all night and fall asleep before the end of the game ,cuz he's gonna be suicidal when the Pats win! Have a good one Crafty:kewl:

Damn, just looked out the front door and it looks like McMurdo Sound out there on Thames St - it sorta reminds me of the blizzard scene in 'McCabe and Mrs Miller' - conservatively it looks like a good foot of powder already.

And I just heard they clocked a 77 MPH gust at the Buzzards Bay Tower :eek5: - this ain't gonna be pretty...:hs:

Hey, Pt Jude Joe - Happy Birthday! I had no idea - I thought it was in December around Mrs Crafty's - you know, I think my traditional spin around the Drive is probably gonna take a little longer than usual tomorrow...:hs:

We got rocked last night at the Bugaboo...By the time we got out of work, it was 10:30, and I felt bad for the other kitchen manager who lives 50 miles away...I asked if he wanted to stay at my place overnight, and it was a good idea.
Just pulled him out of the driveway with the truck, Waltham has like 2.5' right now.
Only seen snow like this once, and it's still going like crazy!!!
Thank God me the off today!!!
Later,
Rick

Here in Exeter wqe have about 2 feet on the ground and its still snowing to beat the band. At least I got out of having to work today.:D Hopefully they'll cancel tomorrow as well. The Governor has declared a state of emergency. Schools & Goverment offices will be closed and he's asking all private business to close as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
