View Full Version : So You Like Snow?
BigFish 01-23-2005, 08:04 AM How much you got? Here in Abington we got over 25 inches so far and it is snowing and blowing to beat the band right now....white out conditions that I have not seen since the Blizzard of 78! I got a drift blown half way up my door here. What you guys doing to pass the day? I just filled some weight holes on some plugs and FishChick is making a huge batch of American Chop Suey for the game tonight!
afterhours 01-23-2005, 08:16 AM about 24" in warwick, ri. some drifts well over 4'- where the hecks my truck- oh it's the big white igloo!
Backbeach Jake 01-23-2005, 08:17 AM It's real hard to tell how much here, it's blowing everywhere! I'd like to go out and take the first layer off but it looks pretty futile. Looks to be maybe a foot+. I'll be in the Jake Cave putting on a second color.
fishaholic18 01-23-2005, 08:27 AM It's hard to tell how much with the wind blowing so hard. Looks like a couple feet though.
I got to go out and see what that nasty banging noise is out there.
redneck24 01-23-2005, 08:29 AM too many drifts with the wind to be accurate, but my fence is almost covered.:smash:
fishsmith 01-23-2005, 08:33 AM Lots of shoveling before the Pats this evening.
Here's our driveway, I'm trying the stack cars to lessen the shoveling.
Crafty Angler 01-23-2005, 08:35 AM I just went out to let out the year old pup in the yard and I was pretty amazed - I can say without fear of contradiction that I've never seen anything like it here in Newport and I was born and raised here - wind gusts are 50+ - eee cooodeesh.
Tough to say how much is on the ground - it's gotta be in the 18-24" range easy - there's a drift across most of the yard that's maybe 6'....visibility right now is about 100 yards....
Can't really judge it in terms of '78 though - I wasn't here - me and a buddy left for Florida 2 days before it hit and I was in West Palm nursing a sunburn when we got the news :smash:
Wish I could say that now
We have over 2' and the worst part is that it isn't supposed to stop until later this afternoon. Here is my wife doing some shoveling until I convinced her to wait it out. The wind is gusting huge.
Homerun04 01-23-2005, 08:52 AM I'd let you know how much snow we have if I could get out of my back door to see.......
BigBo 01-23-2005, 09:01 AM Just look at it this way; free beer cooler for the game later.:D
tynan19 01-23-2005, 09:09 AM That is very innovative Bo. I quess you will not be shoveling today. Still snowing hard up here. Can't tell how much we have yet. After Bacon and Eggs I am going out into the woods with my snowshoes.
thefishingfreak 01-23-2005, 09:11 AM that picture is great bigbo:D
the oficial word is 20" here but we got some drifts up to 5 feet
quick decision 01-23-2005, 09:19 AM Nice cooler Big Bo! I tried keeping up last night with the snow. 2:30 I shouveld the best I could. Woke up this morning and elized I was waisting my time. My friend wanted me to drive to Pitsburg with him. I am glad I passed. I will be more than happy to wtch this one from my living room.
fishaholic18 01-23-2005, 09:23 AM Looks like I won't be getting out to my cave today.

Moose Nuckle 01-23-2005, 09:31 AM I just put the snow blower away. I had drifts up to four feet. The average is about 24 to 26inchs. The wind was blowing into my driveway so the house in front of mine is bare.:af: :af:
Surfcastinglife 01-23-2005, 09:48 AM i cant open the doors........... i think ima have to climb out the window to shovel ><!!!
fishsmith 01-23-2005, 09:58 AM Great idea Big Bo!!
Go Pats!!
CANAL RAT 01-23-2005, 09:59 AM here in plymouth we got about 28inches and snow drifts all most over your head but i dont mind it beacause i LOVE snow
relentless 01-23-2005, 10:14 AM Finished the driveway by 0800 this AM and it is over 250' long. I had to get better half to work and it made me get up early. Now I just have to keep up with it with another round of shoveling and snow blowing (no plow) at 1130, 200 and 530. Come game time, I have no intention of picking anything up other than a 12 oz bottle. My beloved Patriots will make everyone forget about this storm as the big storm rolled into Pittsburgh and will roll tonight. Tomorrow I will shovel the boat off, I am sure the drifts are up to the gunwhales. Why do I fish in the winter is beyone me?
Dave
jbuck 01-23-2005, 10:17 AM I love this. My boss has already called off work for tomorrow.
Time to head out to do the driveway, it is also 200 + feet.
Karl F 01-23-2005, 10:24 AM No point in snow removal here yet, wind is blowing a Lewinsky right now.
Watching the weather, Cape is gonna bear the brunt of the winds they said, and they are gonna pick up the rest of the day... hard to tell if it's snowin or blowin .... hope the power holds... just heard they closed Rt.6 in Truro and P-town.. saw the live shot from Barnstable harbor, waters comin fast.... huge drifts, nose of my pickup disappeared......... guess I'll have to sty in the cave till 6:30 ;)
Crafty Angler 01-23-2005, 10:25 AM Just heard there was a 72 MPH gust clocked on Jamestown and one of 85 on Cuttyhunk - dang!
They've closed the Newport Bridge - hell, I've been in favor of that since they built it :hihi:
cheferson 01-23-2005, 10:27 AM Damn!

BEETLE 01-23-2005, 06:14 PM Spent around 6 hours today outside moving this %@$#%^ Snow.
Driveway is about 300 ft. with the turnaround. This really blows. :smash:
Even more depressing seeing the boat covered and buried in this S&!+, and the rods hung in the cellar.
Went by work to see what's in store for tomorrow - 4 to 9 ft drifts by all the doorways :af:
Maybe i will be sick tomorrow :D
Won't take much to talk me into moving to the Carolina's right about now. :kewl:
Then come in and find out Johnny Carson died. -- real Bummer.

Looks like I won't make it to the MSBA meeting this month!
reelecstasy 01-24-2005, 02:50 PM Well 28" at the top of my road..um, NOTHING in the yard, just grass, driveway totally black no snow..Just a 5' drift infront of the back door...:D Sometimes it pays to live on the water, except the wind was crazy...Was up at Franconia Notch snowmobiling Sunday and drove back to MA at 2..no traffic smooth going, and hardly anything to shovel at the house
Took FDPW 1 1/2 hrs to plow 100' in front of my house. I kept shoveling him out, which payed off big:D
Biteme 01-24-2005, 04:06 PM Heres a pic of my kids on a drift outside my dads door. The plows haven't touched the roads out front.
