View Full Version : I Need Hooks !!! Tagger 01-26-2005, 06:13 PM I need hooks for this diving jointed pike,,,,12" long 8.1 ounces no hooks .. Hey Steelhead ,, r u tieing at plugfest .. ?? Tagger 01-26-2005, 06:14 PM thru wired hangers... Tagger 01-26-2005, 06:22 PM yup...that is Moores largest lip .. afterhours 01-26-2005, 06:40 PM that thing is so cooool!!!! Mr. Sandman 01-26-2005, 06:55 PM Tagger, I have been collecting all kinds of hooks. For that fine work of art you need som BIG strong hooks....The best. I would go with: 1) Owner Stinger 66 trebles probably 4/0 (but you could go smaller)(IMO these are the strongest best made hooks that I have seen...incredable sharp, great welding) expensive but worth it ....figure 2-3 bucks each in that size 2) 24 ct. Gold Plated SS trebles. *very* hard to get. Look awesome are very strong but the wire is not at heavy as the owner above. I have a few but I am saving them for when i get that american flag plug (someday)...I want to put gold hooks on it. Price is tough to swallow. I could hook you up with a guy who will sell you a big plug with the gold hooks, and you could take them off and put them on your plug. You looking at 25 bucks for a plug with these gold hooks. (its a great plug too) (He will not sell the hooks separately...I've tried) 3) VMC 6X trebles. sharp strong, practical Price not too bad (but they rust) figure .40-.50 each. 5) Eagle Claw 777S stainless trebles (if you can find them) (I have a few I could part with but they are 20 years old (but still look OK) but may not be large enough for a 12" plug 4) You need triple split rings. 6) Consider a perfectly tied tail hook. I would go classic stainless siwash, closed eye triple ring with matching bucktail with a hint of flash. IMO that would be my choices.... (If you *ever* want to sell me one please PM me.... :) MAC 01-26-2005, 07:08 PM Wow, that is a monster. Nice, I have some 5/0 VMCs if you want. I want to see you throw that.:D Tagger 01-26-2005, 07:21 PM thanks Sandman for all that information ,,,you know your hooks.:) Thanks Mac .. yea should throw like a cannon ball . what do you think ? 1209 ? steelhead 01-26-2005, 08:26 PM Hey Tagger, Nice work!!! Yes, I'll be bringing my tying gear this year, along with some plugs for swappin'.... Looks like you need a nice tail tied for your big boy plug! Bring the plug. I'll tie one up for you. justplugit 01-26-2005, 09:05 PM Awesome plug Tagger:kewl: Colors are real nice.:) 8.1 oz--if ya need help carrying it in let me know:D NIB 01-26-2005, 11:20 PM i got some old mustad 6/0 open eye.i got 7/0 an 8/0 's also.but they are the new duratin hooks. NIB 01-26-2005, 11:31 PM If ur gonna use a closed eye siwash an a split ring ur tailrap should be horizontal.or the hoook sits sideways.ur gonna have a hard time findin a reel big open eye.I think I might have something.I know I got 9/0 wit a swivel an closed eyes.people seem to have trouble wit the stainless open eye probably because they over work em tryin to close em I have never broke any but i seen em brake. They get plenty of tuna on the ones i closed. Jigman 01-27-2005, 08:18 AM I believe I have some 8/0 VMC siwash hooks somewhere if you need them. Closed eye. Jigman Tagger 01-27-2005, 04:19 PM I was thinking of putting a stainless open screw eye on the asre with a long steelhead tail ..kinda modern bob hahn .. ferret 01-27-2005, 04:30 PM Tagger I bought some Owner Stinger 66 5/0 trebles that are to big for anything I make, I'll mail you a pair if you like. Mr. Sandman 01-27-2005, 06:27 PM thos 5/0's are huge aren't they?..I have some and they look like a grapling hook. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
