I guess this is on the spot burning theme....

The show is pretty entertaining, it is my style of fishing and I like seeing guy’s fish in our neck of the woods (NE) for the same species we all chase… but I have to say that there is a bit of fibbing going on. Having fished some of these spots myself (in some cases rather frequently) I know some areas like my backyard. I am sure you know the landscape and topography around the spots you fish pretty good as well. I notice they say that are fishing in one spot when in reality, they are fishing someplace totally different. Their web site (which is also pretty good btw, but loaded with adds and links) has great details on the locations and gear they used. Several detailed electronic charts showing X's. But they were not anywhere near that spot....

In the case of Fluking off of MV with GC...he was not off MV where they say there were. Even my 12 year old said..."That’s not Martha's Vineyard dad!" In this case I even purchased the (the overpriced) DVD of the single show(IMO should sell the entire season on DVD not show by show) just to get a clear view of the beach...within seconds of seeing the beach I was able to id their true location without question (digital zoom positively confimed the shoreline landmarks) and because I also fish that general area all fall for bass (like 3-4 X per week)

What is the point of purposely misleading the audience? OK, I can appreciate GC not wanting to reveal a honey hole to the rest of the world but IMO that is the cost he has to pay for his exposure on TV. Or, if you don't want to say exactly where you are fishing fine, don't say where you are fishing, or just say some general position..."like 3 miles off Montauk", but don't send crowds to someone else’s back yard with detailed charts when you are really fishing elsewhere. IMO That is a poor Clintonian move and really a lot like outright misleading people.
I don't mind them showing spots...even ones I fish. But I think it is rude to send people to where you are not fishing.

Good show but lets be a little more honest.

have you e-mailed Andy or Tony? I think you have a valid point, and I for one, would be interested in their response. They are pretty down to earth guys and easy to talk to.

No, I was going to talk to them at one of the shows this winter...I think one of them will be at the worchester show in a couple weeks.

That level of deception sounds more like W to me.

I was watching a different fishing show recently where they were fishing "off Point Judith". I guess, TECHNICALLY, the south shore of Block is "off Point Judith", but come on....

I think RappinMikey and I were talking about this show. We both noted the same mis-leading info. Part of doing a fishing show is showing where you are fishing. If you want to keep your fishing spot secret, then don't do a fishing show. DON'T mis-lead your viewers.

I know where they were too. You are right, it doesn't seem right but I also know that around here, when someone brings in a cow bass to a tackle shop, they all say it is from the canal even if it came from a beach. The canal is huge, many spots.
Most people know there are bass to be caught in the canal also. Most people know there are bass to be caught at the Vineyard also. :)
You have a point, if he wants the TV exposure he should keep quiet about where they are and not lie about it but that is what fishermen do I guess, or pay the price, but that price will be at others expense too. There's already enough boats flocking there at times. You still have to know what you are doing.

I am not sure about this episode as I have not see the entire show yet, just the clip and the photos on the website (Sea bass in Nantucket sound) but YOU tell me what you think...

The second chart shows them fishing in mid nantucket sound halfway between Great Point and Monomoy. The distance between GP and Monomy is about 9 nautical miles. so they are about 4.5 miles off the beach fishing a wreck for seabass.

Now look at the photos of them fishing....see the beach behind them? It doesn't look 4+ miles away and there appears to be houses in the picture. The last time I looked at GP and Monomoy it was not built up like that and to see a house on the cape would be seveal more miles away because both point jut out a long way from where houses would be. Maybe they moved inshore to take these photos? I could be wrong on this one as I have not seen the complete show but it seems to me that this is not the X spot the on the chart. I have to say the video clip appears to look more like where they say they are I got a glimse of land way off in the distance but the resolution is very poor. I look forward to the show.

Again, it is a good show and I like the website details. I have never jigged for seabass but I plan to after watching this. I think they are fishing the wreck Lacawanna ( http://www.mwdc.org/Shipwrecks/Lackawanna.html )

BTW wreck fishing is a lot of fun out there on a *nice* day. (but it has to be a nice day or else) When the conditions are right and you get over the sweet spot your party has a non-stop field day on these tasty critters.

I was really dismayed when I saw their shark fishing episode.

They caught a pretty good sized thresher shark and kept it. I cannot for one reason think why they would need that much shark onboard.

The only reason I could see was to take photos of the thing hung up at the dock. That was in poor, poor taste if you ask me. At least they had scientists on hand to examine each shark at the Oak Bluffs Tourney, though that too seemed like a waste to me.

Can someone enlighten me as to why they kept that shark, I will stand corrected if I am wrong....really.

SM, that could be, they taken the photo's somewhere else to throw another loop. the middle pic looks to be a fresh fish(no back ground). Not to get off the subject but did you happen to check out the artical in the salt water sportman feb 05'.... they where jiggin seabass in deeper water, winter time. The same kind of skirts and bait used for fluke....mmmm only winter??

FYI some guides like to take pics after the fishing is done. They do not like to stop good fishing to take pics, and risk losing a good bite. GC has a favorite place he likes to take his customers to, anchor up, and take some pics for the scrap book. There is nothing wrong with that.

i've been on a few charters out of pt. judith over to the block and #1, i wouldn't consider them one in the same and #2 i take pictures while we're fishing not after. when the fishing's done, i want to get home.
