JohnR 11-05-2001, 08:51 PM BM - Plymouth Mass
chubsdad 11-05-2001, 09:19 PM ok heres a little more about the trip its located on plymoyths water front exit 6. i will get the exact time we will be leaving. you may drop your stuff off at the boat but then you need to park over by the lobster hut. dont leave your car at the dock its only one hour parking there. and they will ticket:
bassmaster 11-05-2001, 09:21 PM i use ta go out on capt johns as a kid:D
Not positive......I DO have to work....BUT if I am real good......I may be able to sqeak out of it!!:D
I'd like to invite a couple of the local Charlestown Surfcasters: Plugman & Stoneman if you have room?
JohnR 11-06-2001, 10:49 AM Is that "Plugman" as in selling plugs over at Quonny "Plugman"?
If we have the room, it sounds OK to me. I already have an invite out to 1 relative that loves cod boats....
Got Stripers 11-06-2001, 10:52 AM I'm good to go, just need to know time of arrival and if I need to get someone a check up front. I will be renting tackle if that information needs to get to the boat captain/crew. Since I fish all winter, I know what it takes to keep warm and can't stress enough that proper clothing WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT TO A GOOD EXPERIENCE. Layers, layers, layers and when you think you have enough put on a couple more :). The most important thing you can bring is a good pair of boots, I'll be in my 2000 gram Georgia Ice Trekers (great boots by the way), but also hat/gloves are high on the list.
Topwater 11-06-2001, 02:45 PM I am planing to come. The wife is depenent on the weather. Too windy = no good for her back. Need to feel some tugging on the other end of my line....

Billyboy 11-07-2001, 12:39 AM John,
I can't make it on the 17th for the fall cod trip. Sunday the 18th would be better. but the boats not available. I would like to have gone and meet you guys, but prior plans were made for that day(deer hunting). I was wondering if we can do this again in January. Something to do when the doldrums set in. Good luck on the trip
Bill
Slipknot 11-07-2001, 08:35 AM John, my Dad would like to come along also, I assume there is still room for one more. But what time do you think we will be back? and leaving? I figure we will need to be there by 6 and get back around 4-5 ?

OK - That gives us 20 regulars +2 relatives of mine ;) + 5 possibles... I just need to keep the list as accurate as possible :p
ChubsDad - How are we handling the $$ ??? THanks...
Johnny K - got the MV pictures - thumbs up, You're definitly in for the Cod trip and your betthalf is up in the air right?
Billyboy - If this trip works out like we all expect it to, there may be another trip when the boats start to run again...
These have probably been anwered and I missed them but here goes:
1. What is the price? Does the price include tackle and bait?
2. What are the directions from Charlestown, RI
3. What time will we be meeting at the boat?
4. Are we bringing our own food and beverages?
If anyone in the South County wants to ride down with me or has room in their vehicle, let me know.......
Thanks,
Don
JohnR 11-07-2001, 09:17 AM OK - We're taking the Andy Lynn out of Plymouth Mass (the cod fishing is a lot better there than out of Galilee - they had a 50 pounder last week). We are renting the whole boat so there will be just us and not the 40 person crowds you get on some boats. The cost is $50 per head (boat cost - nothing from this site) which might drop slightly if we fill 27 people and rentals are $7. I'm not too sure what the deal is with terminal tackle - I'm waiting to hear about that... Easiest way is probably 195E to 25 to 6 (along the Canal) to 3 north. There may be a quicker way (like 44) but I'll leave that to the locals to determine.
I'm sure they'll do dogs & burgers for a fee on board, personally, I'm bringing my own grub for the trip...
I've heard some good things about this boat from a few different people and I've been hearing a lot of these boats are getting a fair amount of 20 pounders and up... Excellent opportunity to load up the freezer on some excellent fish  :D
Tattoo 11-07-2001, 10:30 AM For those that don't know the way. Maybe a good meetying spot would be at the herring run on the canal. This way Slip can bring us to his honey hole...:) and then we can all head to the boat. This way, we don't wait for anyone, and no one gets lost.

Tattoo - that sounds like a good idea - meet at the run, but that's a mile & change west of Seal Rock, ain't it? :p ;)
Slipknot 11-07-2001, 10:52 AM HEY HEY, never mind this meeting at seal rock crap. Just show up in Plymouth. If you can't find Americas' hometown then you shouldn't be driving.
It's easy to find:) And 44 would be fine from the west, more direct. It's a long haul up from the Sag. bridge to rt. 44 exit. I think it's exit 7.
JohnR 11-07-2001, 11:08 AM Slip, Slip, Slip - now you gotta realize, I may be living in Rhody now but I was born and for the most part, raised, a ma$$hole. Yes, I can find America's hometown and the rock that's been whittled away more than the Berlin Wall, but ya gotta understand, some of these guys are coming from Rho Dylsand. Not only is driving a few towns away almost like flying cross country, signs in English can tend to confuse them ;) ...
Seriously, what's the best way to get to 44 from 195???
Thanks,
Your fellow, worldly m@@@@@@@....
Canalratt1 11-07-2001, 11:38 AM John let me know if there is room for more. If we get stuck for more people I may be able to get a couple locals at the last minute. BTW the smaller boat has no galley, so you may want to pack your lunch. I'm not sure about the larger boat.
Slipknot 11-07-2001, 11:54 AM "Seriously, what's the best way to get to 44 from 195??? "
I know John, just kidding.
Well 195 in Providence connects to 44 east I believe. That is the staightest route for you northern RI people. If coming from the Newport area, then just head up 24 to rt 44 in Raynham.
Otherwise go ahead and take the super Highway to Rt. 6 along the canal and then north on rt. 3. I have to go to Sagamore beach anyway to pick up my Dad. so I'm going the roundabout way anyway.
All I can say is give yourself enough time to get there early.
This ought to be fun.
Boy with the weather we're having I wonder if there will still be bluefish around?
Tattoo 11-07-2001, 01:31 PM Slip, if we drive by the canal should we stop at Friendly's? :D
Got Stripers 11-07-2001, 04:20 PM From RI on a Saturday, I'd just blast up RT95, to RT128 and down RT3 at the Braintree split, then off at RT44 and your there. I wouldn't even be bothered with anything else, best time for sure too.
chubsdad 11-07-2001, 05:16 PM ok the boat leaves at 6am you want to be there by 530am at the lattest .thats so you can get your stuff on bord get a spot. rember first to arive get to pick the spot on the boat they want. again its about a 2 hour ride out to the fishing grounds. he returns around 330-430 pm dependig on how the fishing is.i spoke with him again this morning . they didnt go out to windy he did say tho its been the best fishing in a long time. as for the money part i put up the down deposit . thats alset .john some how we need to collect from everyone.can i leave that up to you since you know everyone beter then me.also john can you call me tonight
Sorry Guys,
But I mentioned it to the "better half" last night and she said no way, she has to work at 3:00pm next Saturday I have the baby!
JohnR 11-08-2001, 09:36 AM Sorry to hear that you can't make it - sounds like were going to have a blast... I mean crab fights between the Bloos & Reds... Pools for the First Fish * Biggest Fish, Pools for the First Yak & Biggest Yak (just kidding... )
chubsdad 11-08-2001, 04:48 PM i think the fastest way on sat morning that early coming from rhody would be to come 95 north to 128 to rt 3 follow to exit 6plymouth left off ramp follow right down to the water. anyone who needs a ride from the south shore let me no i have plenty of room . im going to be leaving quincy around 330 am bobbike you going. well cant wait till next weekend see you all then
OK.....I am IN!!! I weasled the day off!!!!! But I will be solo (hubby gone for two weeks and when he comes back hes going hunting.....:(
Now since I have never done this before I am a little confused as to what I need jig wise......do I absolutely need to have one or is what they provide enough????? (like schoolie said about the $$ in the other thread:( I really dont care for spending TOO much just to fish for a day travel...gear ...etc.....right now isnt a great time for that:( :( :( ) but if its necessary.......I really have no clue! I really want to try it out to see what its like and the other part says...."you have NO CLUE what youre doin girl".....!!!!
and my other question is about getting there....OK....I figure 495.......and I can get to RT3......but where about on RT3 are we talking here????
Thanks in advance!
chris L 11-09-2001, 10:46 AM I wish I could go . Its been a couple of years since I caught any cod . I used to go every Dec and Jan for about 6 years straight . My best story was the 30#+ cod I caught on a PB&J and it was the pool winner that day . Not to mention all the others that wanted to buy my remaining sandwiches . could have been a very profitable day but I was real hungry !
