Hi All, took a trip to the cape yesterday hoping to find some big cows moving thru, Didn't happen!!! Hit Chatham 1st, wind was howling, incoming tide. Looked good, alot of seals around, but make no mistake if there are seals there is bait or fish, because that is why they are there. Birds were working but way out on the breakers, need a boat for that.

We worked our way from the steps at the light all the way around the point, nice walk, got alot of exercise, but no fish. We left there and headed for the Cow Yard, no signs of activity, went further up the road to another town way up from the cow yard and there were birds working but definatley unreachable. The wind was howling at about 40 MPH, so we decided to head north. Fished Old Sandwich harbor, wind on the out side was rocking, lot of weeds no good, so we walked the marsh on the inside, tide was coming in and the water was real dirty, NADA once again.

left there and went and fished Scorton Creek, was high tide still incoming and the water was as high as I have ever seen it there, it was over the entire marsh, fished it to no avail.

Headed farther north and hit the narrow's, water was about 10 degrees colder that Chatam, no bait, no fish. Called it a day, got really nice out in the afternoon, but the wind just never stopped. We were going to head up to the Truro area, but just were running out of time. Oh well, was a beautiful day to be out a throw a line despite the wind, and got alot of exercise.

As for the cod fishing in the Harbor it continues to be great. We took Squidmama and The Big Catch out the other day and brought home 26 cod all between 7 and 14 lbs. We probably caught well over 40 but were only keeping the larger fish. Still hanging in the 50 ft water mark over by Nahant.

May have to try and sneak in on the cod trip Sat. But will have to wait and see whats going on, I will let ya know JohnR as soon as I can.

Is cod fishing inshore a reliable winter fishery? I didn't realize that there were some options available at this time of year for small craft.

I may be getting a 17' center console sooner than later which will give me far more range than my aluminum.

I may have to put together a cod outfit... have you seen any of Got Stripers' posts regarding getting a few people together at the Thames. Might you and Bill be interested?

Anyways, thanks for the report... you guys sure are dedicated. Makes me feel like a wuss for not getting out.

I was over at Scorton Creek yesterday late morning...mid-low tide & nothing doing...what were you fishing with in the way of lures/bait? I can't seem to quit fooling around with live eels...ought to get back to plugs/jigs, but, geez, I keep thinking there's a BIG striper somewhere just waiting for that tasty eel...

Hey SM, yes the cod are hear all winter, nice clean all white thick meat and not too fishy tastin!!!. As for the Thames probably won't be doing that this year, we will be putting the boat away for the winter in the next week, so won't take it back out till next year, part of the reason is storage space, don't have it hear at home if ya know what I mean. If you get yur new boat and want to go give me a call I can show you a few places out there. Just always need to watch the weather, that is very important this time of year as it can get pretty dam cold out there. How is Karen doing? Hope she has recovered OK from her accident.

Roccus, all we really throw this time of year are jigs, small shads/finess fish, chartrues on murky water days and white/pearl on bright clean water days, and always use teasers, unless you are fishing outer beaches or deeper water, then you might want to try the eels or just throw some big plugs. Scorton isn't very deep, and not that big fish won't go in there, but chances are slim this time of year for big fish to go up in there. Don't be surprised if you pick up a few trout in that area too. Hope this helps!!!

I'll be getting my boat back Friday, stopped in and saw the new axle on today, but didn't have the heart, or should I say stomach, to ask what the bill was up to.

I'm definately headed to the Thames this weekend, Schoolie you available? I feel cheeted after last weekend, just hope the bigger blues are still around.

If you are let me know. I haven't checked the weather yet, but I'm guessing Saturday.

GS, let me check in with John... he and I tossed the idea around of slingin' some eels this weekend, but I haven't talked to him yet.

Otherwise, I'll be taking my aluminum down to the Thames a few times this winter, you'd be welcome to down, the tracker is perfect for that spot. And if we are doin' a little get together, we will need some riders...

FW...well, Scorton's been pretty decent to me in the Fall...one thing I've learned is to use the smaller live eels from the bucket in there...must be stripers are used to seeing the juvenile edition up there in the creek because that size seems to work better than the big ones. I have used jigs in the past...real small bean shaped heads & this is a spot where I tip them with those clipped off sluggos that the bluefish dined on during the summer...Scorton's just seems to do well by me if I stick to smaller baits...when I was using plugs more I'd break out the 3.5" crankbaits, the 3" poppers...I had a gold & black Rapala that was the closest thing to a sure-thing I've ever owned...until something bigger than usual munched it down & went off for a nap behind a tree-snag, breaking me off before it settled in...
