I've just about decided on a 9' Lami plugging rod. Now for a reel.

While it'd be great to put a VS, a Stella or a Saltiga on it, I don't have that kind of headroom on my credit cards. So I've been considering a Penn Slammer 460 or a Shimano Sustain 5000.

The reel has to be braid-friendly and rugged enough so it can survive getting wet, although not dunked. Anyone have opinions, advice or other suggestions?

I have the 560 on an All Star 1088.

Daiwa Tournament SS 2600 for under $100. It feels a little small for me on a 9' rod, but lots of people find it ideal.

Thanks. I've added these to the list of reels to check out. I'm a lefty, so I'll have to find the equivalent of the 706, which if I recall isn't convertible.

It's not, but Penn may still make a few "special order" 705s (lefty version of the 704). You can buy the 706 rotor cup, spool and line roller and make a 705 into a 707 ;)
