Saw Tony at the Hartford show today.

I guess my head has been in the sand as of late and I haven't been out and about, because these aluminum needlefish, called the "Stezko Dart," have hit the stores.

They are 1.5 oz.

I don't know how they swim, but I know they're going to be murder on the bones and the albies in late summer and early fall, especially up on the Cape and the Elizabeths, where sand eels are staple forage.

If you watch some of the regulars up in places like Cape Pogue gut, they'll throw chartreuse and white plastic Boone needlefish plugs like pencil poppers (in broad daylight of course) and hook up with albies. Even in heavy mung.

I cannot wait to try these new aluminum "plugs" out.

I'll bet that you'll be able to catch scup, fluke, sea bass by dragging these things on sandy bottom, and you might even hook up with haddock and cod on these things if you were so inclined.

You know what, I'm gonna replace the rear treble with a bucktail-dressed siwash and try it out on a three-way rig to target some stripers in deep water (same for cod, haddock)..

Very interesting!

Ben, you will flip out when you fish it. Fish it like a needle, or, fish it like a kastmaster, any variation of speed, or retrieve you'd do with either. Versatile, with a cpitol V. Put some bucktail on the hook, becomes twice as deadly. Did T have any of the anodized green, or black on the table?

I tryed them last year...... not bad..... take Karl F's advise they work better with a bucktail.

Karl, I was thinking the exact same thing ... especially if fluke or cod are the targets. :uhuh: Now I need to order some smaller VMC siwash's from Mike. :hihi:

I think Tony did have some different colors (prototypes, I think), but I don't recall exactly what they were.

I have these weird ideas for mods.

One is to apply prismatic tape on the plain one ... a la a deadly #^&#^&#^&#^&.

The other is to make it "hairy." Add bucktail to the entire body (it can be done with a little imagination) ... will be tricky not to screw up the balance of the plug though. Hairy plugs work!

We will have them at the show. All 3 colors.

Actually we've had them in the shop since last fall.

I haven't had a chance to fish one though.

WeeWee I like the tape & bucktail mod idea.
I'll bet one could really launch that thing a country mile.

I have a yellow wooden one that is the same shape. TS gave it to me a year ago and I had some bass on it this past year. I saw the alluminum ones at that time but I didn't get any as he had the only one. I'll have to get some if I can find the green ones.

no problem Karl......TonyC came up with this sandeel looking lure made from the chrome water pipe that goes into the back of your turlet....he flattened out the ends,,,ground the ends round,,drilled hole's in both ends,,put hooks on them anddddd caught fish...this is where Tony s. came up with this sandeel looking lure....now T.c isn't all that mad that T.s copied it and put it on the market...he's just alittle miffed that he wasn't mentioned at all as to being the one who came up with the idea and who orginally made it.....so be carefull when you read anything on the net to as to who made what first without getting the whole back ground on an item.....you maybe surprized to what you find out.

Good idea adding the flash tape for the tunoids. Crank em fast then.

Just my opinion but I think heavier would be better.
