I saw a pick up out at race point last season that had an interesting rod holder on the roof that I was hoping someone here might be able to identify. The holder consisted of two seperate units that appeared to attach to the roof by either suction or magnet and each unit supported half the rod. The holder looked like something that would come off very easily which is what I want. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think I know what you're talking about, but I don't know offhand exactly who makes it. I saw it in a general fishing catalog somewhere.

Anyways, the fanciest roof racks you'll see are made by the Surfcaster (CT) and Hunter Fishing Products (NY/Long Island). Both have lockable racks, however, the Hunter product is the only one that enables you to lock the reels too.

When you're traveling long distances, I'm not so sure suction would be the most secure attachment, especially in hot weather.

Thanks. Most of my fishing is done at a couple of spots that are pretty close together. Some are in residential areas so I like to be ready when I get there and just grab my stuff quietly and go. I usually stop at a nearby parking lot to rig up and put on my gear. I'm just looking for something for moving in between spots (no highway and no need for locks). Hanging them out the sliding rear window on my pickup is what I do now but its a pain if someone's with me and there are two rods in their lap.

How much does GM charge for the Hunter rack?
I picked up a rod from him last year, and he's got a serious setup. He was working on some nice cooler racks at the time

Krispy, I have a HFP roof rack on my truck. Got it from the man (Green Machine). You can take a good look at it this weekend if you want. See ya at the get together.
